Update about blogCa

Who knew all this would happen afterwards! I used to write several blogs, but thought just concentrating on one would be easier for me and my readers. Sorry, it ends up having several topics in each post!

Looking up

 Skywatch Friday

View to the black mountains from the golf course in Black Mountain NC

An old building was removed, where Huddle House and a Radio Shack outlet had once occupied. The slab remains, and no sign.  This photo is a couple of years old.

Another old photo showing some of the quarry where gravel is mined near North Fork Rd.

Today's quote:

The [Nobel] prize is such an extraordinary honor. It might seem unfair, however, to reward a person for having so much pleasure over the years, asking the maize plant to solve specific problems and then watching its responses.

  2. ...beautiful scenes. Duddle House is a flash from the past for me and so is Radio Shack!

    1. Actually preferred Waffle House...but they got confused in my memories. Radio Shack was a great source of techno stuff.

    1. Thanks Robin. I like that view as well. It didn't happen that often, for me to be able to get to that view meant our road had to have been cleared...which has become the last thing that happens after snow. I've got a couple of photos to remember it anyway!

  4. That quarry is an ugly scar on the landscape. I hope that it is fully remediated when gravel extraction ceases.

    1. That and the booming when they blast out more areas...the neighbors are certainly not too happy about it. And we all have the trucks carrying the gravel on our roads to deal with as well.

    1. Thanks, I agree. Seeing mountains with snow is a lot nicer than trying to move around following one of our infrequent snowfalls.

  11. Barbara, The area you live in is as pretty as ours over on this side of the mountains. Living it up with a little bacon! Moderation is the best plan...something I'm not too good at. Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
