Update about blog

The joy of waking to this view each morning is just so wonderful. Even if the camera sees all the distortions from the window screen, I easily ignore them. Many of these green trees stand near or by the Animas River which flows through the town.

Walking and photos (republished after dual posts last Sunday!)

 Happy first of October!!

And this was such a good event to happen to me, to prove my memory is somewhat faulty and needs to be tuned up. I posted 2 blogs last Sunday, so this one has moved forward, and yes, some of you already commented the first time, sorry to lose those comments.

Walking the Lake Tomahawk path...last Thursday, with friend Cathy. We both had not done any exercise actions for a long time, but that day was crisp and bright, light winds, and low humidity. So we spent a half hour with frequent breaks on the welcome park benches along the way. And with this good weather, I planned to be out doing such again several times this week.

Fencing was removed for repaving the tennis courts...next it needs lines painted I guess.

Love the gazebo to frame photos with...

There's the Lakeview Center, upstairs for lunch and large groups, downstairs has various classes and a small kitchen, and a small office. I think it still has a pool table and a TV, and maybe a computer for anyone to use. I go to my chair yoga class upstairs.

Today's quote:

When Alexander the Great visited Diogenes and asked whether he could do anything for the famed teacher, Diogenes replied: "Only stand out of my light." Perhaps some day we shall know how to heighten creativity. Until then, one of the best things we can do for creative men and women is to stand out of their light. -John W. Gardner, author and educator (8 Oct 1912-2002)

Comments may be lost but wait, maybe, no, when you delete the post...but I had an older window open still on the computer, with the original post...so here is the original comment...Thanks!

Walling is a little thing that I guess I used to take for granted.

Exercise

These are the houses on Walker St. which indicate as far up the hill as I've been reaching on my walks. I aim to go further ...and longer. That is what my Exercise Physiologist recommends. I need to be able to walk an hour. So far I'm pushing it at 1/2 hour. But he says I can rest along the way. Mmm, I think I can, I think I can, I think I can (The Little Engine That Could.)

On the days that I don't do the walk, I can do strength training. Jay (The EP) hasn't taught us how to use the bands yet, but there are lots of exercises in our book showing their use. We also can use weights. These are mine.

They probably aren't quite a pound each, which is all I'm able to use at the gym.

One of the example pages from our Ornish workbook.

The daily tracking of food

The weekly tracking of food, see below for an example.

These are some of the tracking charts we fill out each day...then summarize each week. I've had to learn what amount of each kind of food counts as a "single serving." Often I end up eating two servings or sometimes just a half.

Today's quote:
The voice of conscience is so delicate that it is easy to stifle it; but it is also so clear that it is impossible to mistake it.

Hearing the traffic

The other day I walked in a park nearby, but was amazed how loud the traffic was.  I've walked there in summertime, and I guess the leaves on trees must muffle it.  That day, Feb. 28, there were no leaves.  And lots of traffic.

It was due to rain more that afternoon, but was dry before noon, so I watched the semis go their way (see white box through trees.) I admit I was jealous of the runner who jogged by me with earbuds in his ears, listening to a much nicer song, and I hadn't even heard him coming up behind me.

The Interstate 40 is to the left as I looked back at the parking lot.  That's near the ball fields, which probably will see action soon as the warmer weather comes.

There are actually 3 choices of path to follow, and I liked this little children's tracking sign.

In the past I've gone down to the right under the interstate to the community gardens.

The walk goes through one tunnel under the highway, and the Swannanoa River goes through several others.

I chose to walk up the straight path toward downtown Black Mountain, going over the walkway bridge.

A well forested area, but these trees looked different, and what did that sign say?

I guess the dirt path off through the woods went towards some college land with some athletic fields.  I didn't go that way.  This is not in Montreat, but Montreat College has a Black Mountain campus now.

I went up the steep hill, rested my panting lungs, then turned around and went back.

There wasn't much evidence that spring was coming soon...just a few buds on some tree, might be redbud?

The river had flooded in the past, leaving all that sand on the right, but it was pretty calm and clear today...before the next rain!

Flowers make me happy

 A gift is much appreciated!
Transucent. Variegated!

 A Phalaenopsis

I promised myself to take good care of it.  And learn how to keep it healthy.  It came in such a small container!

I do hope it continues to bloom.  Winter sun came through the window earlier today, but has gone hiding behind grey clouds now.  I went for a walk around the lake, only got a third of the way when I was out of breath.  Baby steps, Barb...you haven't been doing this for about a month (or two).
