Dry Falls

From former blog (where do old blogs go? some disappear apparently!) "Living in Black Mountain NC."

From under "Dry Falls" near Highlands, NC.

It's a myth, you can't really stay dry under these falls, at least when they are really working.

Today's quote:

Buckminster Fuller used to say that "changing human nature is hard, and when you try, you mostly fail, and it's discouraging. Changing tools and technology is relatively easy."

Old photo:

My mother and father at Epcot, Disney World, FL with my nephew Zachery, about 1982-3. I'm so glad my niece, Lisa, is happily living in Italy now. She and I (and our  families) are the only living people from my nuclear family. It's so strange to see these people who were captured in a moment in time.

Some winter to consider

From the Way-Back-Machine  - as posted in Living in Black Mountain NC - a blog that I'm no longer keeping current.

Just thought August might enjoy some thoughts of snow!

Winter sometimes provided gorgeous walks for me, 2011
----------

I must have a lot of influence...look at yesterday's temperatures! Not quite snow, but Aug 3 with the high of 66.

I cannot walk through the suburbs in the solitude of the night without thinking that the night pleases us because it suppresses idle details, just as our memory does. -Jorge Luis Borges, writer (1899-1986)

Blog-full of BOG

If Blogger has somehow become bogged down on this blog site...I'll just take my business elsewhere.

I've noticed before that some blogs take longer to load...not just WordPress kind, not just those with big wonderful photos which must have huge files...

So I'm sending you over to the blog that I have not been using since the spring...

Living in Black Mountain.

And I'll try to open your blogs from there, so I can still make comments. I'll be looking for your comments here, and may make replies. We'll see how much time that takes!

In 2012 my anniversary of When I was 69!

And I left pottery about the time COVID came along...2-1/2 years ago now.

Comment on 9/20/22 - finally blogger is loading this blog in 3 seconds again. Too late.

I'm over at Living in Black Mountain! Come on by, put me on your list, and comment if you'd like!

Art in Bloom Garden Tour House No. Three

Just across the street from the former (No. Two) house was the No. Three home. Up a steep hill we climbed to the back garden, and it was worth it!

Wonderful stone work throughout

From the top of the drive

Great to have labels on a lot of plants, but not all! We kept commenting how there were no weeds! (I imagine a landscaping crew on their knees plucking weeds out)

My friend Helen talked with the artist...

Bill said he was taking photos to hopefully publish in a newspaper (unnamed)

The photographer, Bill, said he'd take our photo on my camera...so I said sure...but we didn't even know the lady in the hat...no problem. He started taking them before we posed, and I think that was best.

On to the next area, in an older part of Black Mountain. Sharing with Living in Black Mountain.

And check out the Gallery Exhibit of the Floral art for this fund raiser at my blog about art:

Hello and farewell...

Did you notice I've turned 76? And changed the title of this blog, but actually I'm switching to Living in Black Mountain, and keeping the posts from "When I was 69" under that title.  Otherwise, nobody can search for that title if I just change it.  Duh.

So moving forward from here...

I'll be doing house things today as I recover.

The rest of this blog post is over at Living in Black Mountain, where I'll be putting my travel photos and my personal thoughts.  Not sure what will come over to the old When I was 69 still...probably historic things...not my ancestors.  That is my thought today.

Yes, I can wander around in cyber-land, since it beats playing computer games (at least for me!)

Vista searching

Big holiday weekend coming up, next Monday being Memorial Day.

Lots of tourists will be visiting our area...and are welcome.  But if I wanted to see any vistas on the Blue Ridge, I'd better do it yesterday.  I did share the road already, with about 30 Harley Davidsons.

This overlook was nicely deserted.  The next one I tried was full of Harleys and had no room for me.

Right after the motorcycles left the tunnel, this lone bicycler came out, and I bet his ears had been deluged by the sound of all those motors!

I had luckily gone through the tunnel alone, put camera up in windshield for a moment, then pulled over to look at a small cascade and some wildflowers.  So glad I didn't back up all those motorcycles as I slowly wound down the Parkway.

Come over to my other blog, Living in Black Mountain for more of my vistas pursuits.
