Remembering a year ago

And I take a moment to honor the loss of life and property in western North Carolina (and nearby states) from Hurricane Helene on this date last year.

Goodness, I've posted a lot of photos and blogs about the damages, and our recovery in the last 12 months. Swinging through Swannanoa, Hurricane Disaster coping with it, Holding on in Western NC

The little engine that could

Chugga chugga...

I think I can, I think I can. I drove to my favorite seafood shop, and purchased a pound of salmon. It would become glazed with maple syrup and rum  later that night, nestled next to red potatoes and French cut green beans.

Driving was easy enough to do on Saturday before 11.

Incidentally, Roger is wanting to sell his little fish business, because he needs to have back surgery. He only works a few hours Friday and Saturday here in Black Mountain, with fresh-caught fish trucked in from the coast. Of course my salmon is actually farmed in Canada, but I figure it has had much less handling and is days fresher than that sold at the grocery down the street.

The back side of the Tailgate Market.

Wandering around I saw lots of nice red apples, but I wanted a couple of tomatoes. Slowly I walked all the way to those booths at the back side of the market...and they still had some tomatoes!

Some fresh sunflower sprouts and little ginger roots were part of my purchase. Then slowly I walked back to the car. I was so tired by then! But I had accomplished the shopping I needed. Whew.

I had a light lunch, then napped for a while, but a huge clap of thunder hit right over my head before I actually was asleep. I'm glad I'd turned off the surge protector on the computer! Little drizzly rain for several hours. as thunder slowly moved into the distance.

Thankful Thursday

It's finally cool (early August Saturday) and then as I drove  through town, rainy. So I stopped at a favorite place.

The rain held off, so I wandered around the Tailgate Market.

A couple of tie-dyed yardages in rayon...birthday presents

In case you haven't thought about your "flower child" aspect lately! I want to change my name!

Old Photo:

Stepping into this little Natural Food Store is like stepping back in time, but everything is fresh and organic, and they have some things not available elsewhere in the area. I buy my bulk Good Tasting Nutritional Yeast there, and sometimes a few dark-chocolate covered nuts.

Tuesday as I left the dentist, having the root pulled of the tooth which broke off at the gum line. Old bones aren't the only thing that get more frail with age! I'm grateful that it came out so easily. This is my friendly hygienist. So I went home and spent the rest of the day with gauze, Tylenol, Ibuprofen and lots of liquids to eat. Then yesterday I could finally have my left-over pizza - but not the crusts!

This video is long, but I watched it in segments...very interesting guy.

The fun times at the Tailgate Market in Black Mountain

Some fun is experienced by watching the people, the dogs, the kids, the extravagant outfits people show up wearing. And then there's also fun purchasing just the best fresh produce around! Or maybe a plant, or jewelry, or baked goods, or pottery!

I sold this platter to a friend (well almost gave it to her!) last Saturday. She's one of those people who walks this earth just doing good things.  The image is some kind of wind and moon interaction that I thought up in 2014. My friend may give it to her daughter, as she has other pieces of my pottery. She also bought a pot from the other Mud Buddy, Amelia Packer.

Then the love sign holders came through the market!

They are noted to stand out on the corner of our busiest intersection every Wednesday afternoon at 5 pm waving and sending love to all who drive by.

I decided to purchase some pretty flowers for my home from local grower "Urban Farm Girl."

While the local Ukulele band gathered to share a couple of songs!

See what I mean about colorful outfits? I didn't have permission to post Michelle's photo, but I don't think he'd mind his outfit without his face!

A satisfying day for me...I did much better at being there more hours.  And I arranged my flowers back home while talking on the phone with one of my sons. That always makes me feel good.

With the storm remains coming in the next few days, I'm not sure I'll go to the market this Saturday...we shall wait and see!

Going to market again

Ho hum, you say...there she is doing her due diligence and taking her table of pottery to let everyone paw upon it at their leisure. And there she went to buy fresh corn on the cob, and bread, and a brownie, and for breakfast, a scone! Not just any scone, but a chocolate chip pecan scone! But she didn't bother to have it warmed up for her. No, she'd already had her cup of coffee on the way to market, and now wanted just to nibble on her scone for a while.

Thus my 8:15 arrival at the Tailgate Market in Black Mountain moved toward the next 4 hours of wonderful weather, meeting with old friends, and selling not a thing! Zip, nada, no sales!

But did I complain? Not really. Well only that the music was bad. The weather was fantastic though. And though I coughed a bit (well quite a bit there at the end of the day) my friends were great about loading and unloading my car for me, so the worst effort I expended was arranging the pots, then packing them back into tubs again.

And I did spend some early time wandering and taking photos. It wasn't a very crowded market this week. We figured parents are going with children to get the last minute school supplies since school starts here today, Monday.

Amazing how I caught our Market manager, Jaqueline Smith, as she walked by.

I even added a sunflower to the vase, but nobody seemed interested in it. The bears and these little dishes by Cathy Babula usually get a comment...but that's all they garnered.

Amelia had some new work on display, which caught people's attention, but I don't think she had sales either.  Her daughter had made some earrings, a couple of which sold. But nobody seemed too distressed by the day's take.

So here's an old favorite to entertain you...if you like.
