I have been known to use those 800 numbers when Ancestry DOT com just muddles things up too much for me to figure out.
And I've learned how to do several things.
Last night's 50 minute call taught me how when an ancestor appears twice and is married to the same wife (who only appears once) and has two sets of the identical parents, and has two sets of the identical children, they want me to count it as Intra-Familial Marriages.
So I followed that advice, and it didn't remove the duplicate ancestor...nor his parents nor the 24 kids.
So the customer service guy (with several holds while he consulted his supervisor) sent me another set of instructions.
I wasn't to try to do them while he was on the line, as they were very involved and I needed to take the time to do them.
I then was supposed to answer a survey as to how satisfied I was with his service.
The dingbat survey (totally recorded) didn't record my answers, and asked the first question about 5 times before it moved on to the second question. After the 5th time telling it that "No, I didn't solve my problem," I finally hung up. Hope Eric doesn't lose his job...but I finally just deleted my ancestor's children and his parents. And this morning I started adding them back into the tree.
At least the ancestrial cousins don't leave my list of relations when they are deleted from a family. But I haven't the time to put them all back in today.
So a bunch of cousins have just gone missing. The only useful thing I find for them is proving the birth or death dates for their mothers.
I may leave out a mother that is listed having children in her 60's. And being 20 years older than her husband. I think someone made a mistake there.
So that was almost an hour of my life gone last night. And then this morning I couldn't log onto Ancestry the way I always do...and had to ask them to send me a new password. Some help!
But I'm hooked...because now I'm in the realm of the glorious patriots who somehow stuck their necks out to fight and sometimes die to make a country where people would have a say in their government. Yesterday was election day. No comment.

Continuing drama with Ancestry
This has become the back-story.
How many things that are listed as fact, are in fact just errors on Ancestry DOT com
I was working on another branch back from my mother's family tree, where the Conns moved to Texas back when it was being settled.
Tomorrow I'll post more details about John Thomas Conn on his birthday.
Both his parents came from VA and only moved as far as Ralls County, MO, where they have headstones in the cemetery. So there's a good likelihood that facts about them are substantiated. I'll write more about their lives later.
But let's check where his mother's parents came from. Mildred Ann Conley Conn was born in VA. Her father John Conley was born in 1730 (or so) in Ireland, according to Ancestry. Her mother, Elizabeth Sanford Conley was born in 1731 in Fairfield, Fairfield County, CT...and she also died in Fairfield County, CT - in Redding in 1760.
Their lives are believable, except, how did she go to VA to give birth when she was born and died in CT? Mildred Ann and the next to next born child are the only ones Ancestry lists has having been born in VA. And they are the only 2 who carry the Conley last name, the other 7 having the name of Platt, being born both before and after the 2 Virginia children. Here's the list which shows not much information about several of them.
Don't you just know someone looked at Fairfax and Fairfield and got the 2 places confused?
I could do that. But VA and CT are a whole long distance away, especially for colonial US.
But this brings into question the Conley connection, because the mother of Mildred couldn't have lived her whole life in CT, gone to VA in 1770 to have Mildred Ann Conley, then back in 1775 to CT for William Platt's birth, then in 1785 back to VA to give birth to John Conley.
At least the 2 children born in VA were named Conley.
So I think I can count that John Conley might at least be the brother of my ancestor Mildred Ann Conley.
Their parents are quite another matter!
And just as I was finishing up John Thomas Conn's post for tomorrow, what do I notice but another Ancestry connection (they call them hints) that places my great great Hannah Leak Conn Booth in Indiana as the daughter of yet another branch of the Conn family...which is really strange. But the Indiana connection is the weak link in my history, so perhaps this will expain how she got there. All will eventually be clear, or I'll just give up.

Nancy Ann Whitlow Cannon
Nancy Ann Whitlow...ancestress born on
18 Nov 1747 in Caswell, North Carolina, and she died on 01 Jul 1830 in Knox County, TN.
She was the mother of William Henry Cannon. She was married to John Cannon, in 1776 in North Carolina.
Her granddaughter Cyntha Cannon married Micajah Clack Rogers in Sevierville, TN, and they moved eventually to TEXAS, where 4 or 5 generations later I was born.
Last night I spent 3 hours that I didn't really want to spend straightening out what had been screwed up somehow on Ancestry, making Cyntha Cannon the sister of her father. ARGH! She was only listed once, and was on my tree in the right place, but kept coming up with the wrong family...where she actually had been entered twice. It took forever, because frankly, I don't want to spend all my life correcting Ancestry mistakes.
Anyway, here's what I know about Nancy Ann Whitlow.
One family tree lists her name as Nancy Wilton, who married John Cannon on Jan 29, 1800 in TN. I'm going to discount that entire entry, as being another Nancy who married another John Cannon, maybe their son or nephew. It's way too late in her life for a marriage.
Due to being born in Nov, she was actually 82 years old at her death.
I saw 10 other family trees with the Cannons, and each has her granddaughter as her daughter. So maybe someday someone else will straighten them all out. What a mess.
Anyway, she probably had these children: Charles, Elizabeth, Jane (1770-1860), William Henry (1771-1868), John (1779-1864), Henry (1781-1850), Robert (1781-1854) and Martha Patsy (1784-1862). I say probably for a reason. You may notice Henry and Robert both listed as birth year 1781. Robert was born Sept. 30, and Henry was born July 29. Not possible folks!
So the mess continues. Of course a slip of the finger typing can give the year of one of these gentlemen's birth wrong. And I sure make my share of typos. But to have so many folks keep on passing on false information about real people seems so disrespectful.
Why do I keep working with this system? Well because today I found one of those other 10 trees had some parents listed for Nancy Whitlow. They were Henry Othello Whitlow (1724-1788) and Elizabeth Perkins (1724-1798). To have connected with two more ancestors makes all the headaches worth while.
I'll add this to the meme of Sepia Saturday for this week (HERE). There are always some interesting reads over there, and some (as well as this one) not on topic for the week.
