So today I'm sharing some shots of Lake Tomahawk, when the weather was actually above freezing around noon on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2025. It had probably had a cover of ice for the last week, but there was enough wind so no snow stayed on it from the last snow a week ago.

As you may notice, I didn't get far walking around the lake. The wind off the ice was awful. One mother had her two little kids playing in the sand at the playground, but bigger (3-4 years old) wanted to see what this ice stuff was, so was lying on the rocks trying to reach it. Mother was standing by him, but didn't set any limits on his reaching, just asked him to put his mittens on. I walked back to my car, remembering how to do CPR on children.

Today's quote:
Hope is often misunderstood. People tend to think that it is simply passive wishful thinking: I hope something will happen but I’m not going to do anything about it. This is indeed the opposite of real hope, which requires action and engagement. |
JANE GOODALL Today's art: Toshi Yoshida ------------------- An article which doesn't include much, but mentions the World Health Organization recognition that art therapy helps with health issues 5 years ago. Art Therapy boosts health! |
A town near us had a teen fall through the ice. It was nip and tuck, and even the certified rescuer had to be rescued.
ReplyDeleteI saw a video of a rescuer also going in, and the two ropes, one for victim and the other for rescuer, both pulled out of the water by people on shore. Incredible. The first thing victim wanted to do was take off his wet coat before even getting on dry land. Blankets must have been available but the video cut off then.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteThe ponds around here are all frozen, we have not had many days with temperatures above freezing. The lake scenes are pretty. I love the art work! Take care, Happy Friday! Wishing you a great weekend.
I thought the art would really brighten up things after all the greys and blues of our winter world!
Delete...I love the Toshi Yoshida print.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed it as much as I did!
DeleteWe've been getting police alerts reminding us the ice on local ponds is too thin to step on. It seems there are always people wanting to test it.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to mention how many tree branches and lumps of rock had been thrown on the surface by curious people.
DeleteI forgot to say I love the art you post, very nice feature.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I do collect a bunch of things I see on the internet.
DeleteThat looks really very cold. Very. Oh, I can´t wait for Spring, really...
ReplyDeleteYou sure wouldn't have enjoyed it! I was out there maybe 5 minutes total!
DeleteBarbara, Just too cold looking for me. 52F yesterday and 54F with sunshine today. Still some snow on the ground, especially in the shade. We do freeze up at night which means that Laurie puts hot water in the bird baths every morning. Deep freeze coming this next week! We have neighbors who visited Black Mountain about 10 days ago... They loved it! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
ReplyDeleteIt was in 50's today, but the snow on the shady side of my building still hasn't melted. Time to run the faucet at night whenever it's below freezing...I guess all day long next week!
DeleteAnother beautiful post Barbara. Thank you aloha. I like how you were ready to step in if needed
ReplyDeleteHa ha, I was thinking and actually just remembering that compressions were lighter and faster than adults. but myCPR is really out of date!
Delete"look, it's stiff" squealed Thumper! Favorite part of winter! I still have my childhood skates- I , nor anyone , will ever use them but there they are. Great photos! LOVE the art, so colorful, sorely needed in these grey days.
ReplyDeleteI don't remember Bambi enough, but some very deep memory has some ice skating involved!
DeleteMy car has been stuck on the ice in our driveway for two days--John finally got it free. Good days for me to stay put.
ReplyDeleteYikes...you and the lake, and the snow on the north side of my building where sun doesn't hit! Lots of ice...glad your car is working again.
DeleteCold but beautiful. Sometime I wonder how kids survive these days (or how any of us survived for that matter!).
ReplyDeleteI get a kick out of the rubber surfaces on playgrounds. Don't kids get skinned knees any more? My scabs were badges of honor!
DeleteCanal ice I'd deem safe, but I'd stay off river or lake ice.
