My sharp eyed grandchildren saw him sauntering past the deck...so he was on the gound and we were a floor above him...looking out windows! I ran to the front porch, and sure enough he walked on by.
He wasn't full grown, and looked a bit thin for a bear. Perhaps he'd been sent out on his own when his mother had new cubs.
I don't know if my videos will work. I've never had success at loading my own videos, though I could do YouTube. One of these is a MP4 and the other a MOV.

...neat to see from a distance.
ReplyDeleteI know! One of the granddaughters started to call to him, and was quickly hushed by her father (and I would have too, if he hadn't). Bears live in their world, we live in ours, and this is as close as I want to be.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteGreat sighting of the bear, your videos worked for me. Take care, enjoy your day and new week ahead.
Yes, my videos worked for me after publication too! They didn't while it was in preview mode...so I really didn't see what they included...not too much I'm afraid! Have a great week yourselves!
DeleteGlad that the bear went on its way. The video worked on my iPad.
ReplyDeleteGood to know you could see it on your iPad. He was welcome as long as he kept moving away, rather than up the steps of the porch!!
DeleteWow! Love that you were able to video that bear there. Well done.
ReplyDeleteA first time I've seen one just walking along, minding his own business. Now I have greater appreciation of that phrase!
DeleteWhat a nice treat. There were bears near where we used to cottage, but I only saw a young one once, very briefly as it ran across the road.
ReplyDeleteI've had a mama and two cubs enjoying my bird feeder right outside my bedroom window, when I had 2 cats inside...and I did close the window after I noticed the scent of the bears! Whew! I figured they might catch my scent too, and think I was pretty delicious! Not sweet enough though, they turned over the logs and ate grubs that were underneath!
DeleteMagical sighting!
ReplyDeleteHe was a sweet little guy, just unaffected by our being there! Glad of that.
DeleteI need to catch up with your blog! All kinds of adventures you've been having.
ReplyDeleteThis has definitely been a special week...celebrating my soon 80th birthday.
DeleteGreat sighting. I'm glad everyone kept their distance. Last year in the Catskills AirBnB we saw evidence that a bear had come by and were glad we hadn't seen it. I attacked the trash cans and a bees' nest under the porch.
ReplyDeleteYes, they do go where they are led by their noses...I wonder if there was honey in that bees nest.
DeleteWow, how amazing, though I'd be a bit scared of it.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I didn't want to catch his attention. I was pretty sure I could be back inside the front door if he turned our direction.
DeleteThat is really exciting!
ReplyDeleteWhat people tell us is to go outside with a pot and spoon, bang and make noise. You really don't want it around, and you want it afraid of the noise. That said, I do that after I get a video! HA!
My granddaughter had done some bear research and told us all if we met a black bear, to slowly go away making lots of noise, clapping and singing etc. Sounds sane to me!
DeleteAs long as they keep going on their way.
ReplyDeleteLuckily it was a small bear only, hope he didn't do too much damage. Thanks for visiting and commenting in my blog too Barbara.
