Chimney Rock and fun clouds

This view, with a mickey mouse kind of cloud, shows Chimney Rock up on the top of those bluffs. It really is in front of them with a US flag on top of it, so it isn't showing in this view.

Looking the other direction are the bluffs on the other side of the valley through which the Broad River flows into Lake Lure.

This is the marina, and somewhere over to the left are pontoon boats that take tours around the lake. I might do that, if the price is right.

Entrance gate to Chimney Rock

If the elevator is running, I might go up to the lookout...or maybe not. Depends on the price of tickets!

I may have showed you this little beach last week, on Lake Lure.

    1. If that elevator is working I'll probably go up. Not going to attempt the stairs though! Have a great weekend.

    1. Chimney Rock was privately owned for many years...and became a state park only in the last 10 years or so. Not sure which one built the entrance.

    1. I am drawn to big skies, I guess from growing up in relatively flat areas.

    1. Great idea, but the pontoon boats have covered areas for seating, if I remember correctly. Lots of water and trees to be seen.

  7. Barbara, We've seen but not explored the area around Lake Lure and now Chimney Rock State Park is on our long list of places to explore. Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

    1. Thanks Big Daddy...I'm looking forward to seeing some spots again, from visits before it became a state park even. At that time the elevator was frequently broken though.
