Lakeview Center today

This is what remains of the downstairs of the Lakeview Center...flooded from Hurricane Helen, but needing much more repair than just the flood damage due to inadequate repairs after a fire years ago. The reflections as I looked through the door were pretty strong, sorry.

There were still two mallards in the swimming pool.

Various Black Mountain town employees have made the lunch site upstairs into open offices since their own offices haven't been repaired from flooding yet. All this falls into the city's budget, while the fire house also needs to be updated.

But many seniors come to pick up a lunch still just inside the door.

Malinda (who didn't want her photo taken) hands out the lunches most of the time.

Many of us from the western North Carolina mountains are wearing shirts and jackets to encourage each other as the long haul of rebuilding after the hurricane continues.

Personal update:
If you missed my replies to comments, or visits to blogs, it's because I was dealing with pneumonia, which came on suddenly Wednesday night, then to hospital for 2 nights. I came home Saturday afternoon, a bit weaker, but still getting more meds and lots of rest, then rebuilding energy! It's a job sometimes

    1. We are really missing all our opportunities to come together...just pick up a box lunch and that's when we see each other, kind of hap hazard. We have one of our exercise classes being provided over at a local church. I went once so far. Thanks for your wonderful healing vibes...distances don't really matter for them, I think.

    1. Thanks so much ! I'm pretty out of it physically still...which pulls emotions all to whooee. Mental, just don't ask. Spiritual, some good things, some not so good. Getting used to managing new meds. New breathing exercises to do.

    1. Our Black Mountain Recreation department gives Malinda her job, to oversea any adult programs, including helping with the Council on Aging lunch program. I think that's maybe state run, or federal (heaven help us). Malinda is taking some (van seats 12, I think) seniors on outings like monthly visit to a restaurant, and some hiking opportunities. But not having the center open means limited socializations. The exercise class is being held weekly again at a nearby church.

  10. Oh my gosh, praying you are feeling better. I have found it takes a while to feel 100% after pnuemonia. And on top of everything else. I am so sorry this happened to your area. It looks like you have a lot of people to help pull the recovery together. I'm sure it will be a long haul.

  11. Oh no,, Barb! Good to know you are out of the hospital but geez. That had to be scary. You seemed to be doing so well.

Still so much work to do in your town, and all the flooded areas. Yet the media and our "government" seem to have lost interest. So very sad.
