Ladies fashions plus...

 1920 styles

Sepia Saturday shows a department store with some ladieswear, as well as hats.

Riding an electric scooter around 1910

Madame Decourcelle was the first licensed taxi driver...Perhaps in France because the description is in French. No date given.

On the Bois de Boulogne, a stylish woman walking her pooch.

Woodstock NY, 1969! OK, I notice this isn't a lady. But the fashion is so ...whatever!

Today's quote:

“I’m not an atheist. The problem involved is too vast for our limited minds. We are in the position of a little child entering a huge library filled with books in many languages. The child knows someone must have written those books.”

Albert Einstein

    1. I find few men are...and those who are fashionable tend to either hide it in fear of being considered a "dandy" or they just indulge in a moderate amount.

  4. The 1920s fashions have stood the test of time rather more successfully than the Woodstock ones.

    1. I actually thought bell bottoms would be coming back. Maybe I'm just not in the circles where fashionable clothes are worn any more.

  5. That Einstein quote must mean that he was an agnostic because he sure wasn’t a theist.

  6. Fashion is such an odd thing. Happy to have reached an age where it's irrelevant. Comfort and utility, that's my mantra,

    1. Me too, though I think only in school settings did I ever see women who were interested in it.

  7. I love seeing vintage fashion photographs and you featured some choice examples. But I never expected to see an electric scooter in 1910 - I was always under the impression they were quite a recent invention.

    1. Pretty amazing, wasn't it? And I wonder where the battery might have been!

  8. I didn't know that electric scooters were around in 1910.

  9. While the late 60s outfit doesn't wow me, the others sure did!

    1. The clothing styles often will date an event which has no other defining characteristic.

  10. That scooter looks a lot like a seqway. (Did I spell that right?)

    1. I'm not up on spelling, but you're right, the newer scooters are similar!

  12. I had no idea the fashion of electric scooters went back to 1910!! (they're everywhere in my town now - and mostly in the way where they shouldn't be!)

    1. I must not go to places where segways or scooters are being ridden.

  13. A very interesting selection of images. I imagine that when modern vehicles like the electric scooter and the open cab taxi were introduced, women were forced to change fashions in order to wear clothing that was practical. Long dresses and large feathered hats would just not work.

  14. That scooter looks a lot like the ones all over town here. Enjoyed your selections!

    1. Hm - not sure why my comment appears as Anonymous. Maybe because I accidentally replied to Mike's comment? This is Kathy at abbieandeveline.
