Who knew all this would happen afterwards! My winter garden against the living room windows. I let these little plants be my decorations for the season.

How to get the humidity up

Just with my body moisture, I usually have a bit of condensation in the bathroom window. But last night I had had a faucet dripping all night, because the pipes were in danger of freezing.

And thus there was a burst of humidity from that steady dripping.

I wondered if it will dry up during the day. Yes, it was mostly gone by noon with the sun shining into the other room's windows. This one faces north, and between the blinds and the little curtain of two layers, I am able to keep most of the coldness from streaming into the bathroom. In mountain areas, the north wind just pushes against everything, even when you can't tell it's there. But possibly this has contributed to the plants blooming away in the window in the bedroom. I'm just a little hot house on one side, here!

Today's quote:

Observe your own body. It breathes.

You breathe when you are asleep, when you are no longer conscious of your own ideas of self-identity.
Who, then, is breathing?

The collection of information that you mistakenly think is you is not the protagonist in this drama called the breath. In fact, you are not breathing; breath is naturally happening to you.

You can purposely end your own life, but you cannot purposely keep your own life going. The expression, 'my life' is actually an oxymoron, a result of ignorance and mistaken assumption.

You don't possess life; life expresses itself through you.
Your body is a flower that life let bloom, a phenomenon created by life.

    That's an interesting quote!

  2. Good not to have frozen pipes. We use a dehumidifier...warms a room as well as drying it.

    1. I like that idea. With all the wetness February had this year, I've really felt the moist days...this old bod does have some joint pains sometimes.

  4. ...the fear of frozen pipes says a lot about the construction of your building.

    1. They are a bit ancient I guess...frame construction over concrete retaining walls...which are at least as tall as the downstairs apartment's back walls. Downstairs neighbors tell me they frequently find them too damp...being on this side of a hill.

    1. Yes, I can usually find something positive as a result of the forces which I have little control over, like the weather, living on a hill, getting old!

  6. Hello Barbara,
The humidifier is great for warming up a room. You shouldn't have to worry about your pipes freezing.
    Take care, enjoy your day!

    1. Not sure if you mean the manager should do the worrying, or should have someone who takes care of freezing pipes. But I do let the faucets drip when it's below freezing outside. Not difficult to do.

  7. We haven't had any frozen pipes here in northern California, but we did have a broken valve with a water leak. Our latest water bill-- $745.00!! The city is going fix it, but wow!

    1. Any water leak is a concern, and can damage various parts of a home. Just look at what the poor folks in Texas are dealing with. I'm grateful that we are not dealing with the cold like they are.

  8. We had a pipe freeze in our garage once when I stupidly left the garage door up in freezing temperatures. Frozen pipes are rare here, and I never even thought of the possibility.

    1. I had an engine block crack in a van in Gainesville FL when there were several days when it didn't get above freezing. I had just been adding water to the radiator rather than coolant. That was in the 80s. I know better now!

  9. We had frozen pipes one year in Alaska and had to buy some heating tape to wrap around our pipes. That solved our problem.
