Update about blogCa

Who knew all this would happen afterwards! Flat Creek in November, 2024. Much changed by the force of the hurricane floods in Sept. 2024. The deck of the bridge is now under that pile of debris.

Considering how little attention they get...

My African Violets just keep on blooming, and making pretty fuzzy green leaves. You can notice I don't even dead-head them, just let the dead blossoms fall into the dirt.

I wish this attitude worked on dirty dishes!

I moved the laptop so I could enjoy more sunshine on this Solstice morning.

I'm glad these outdoor plants will be getting more sun for the next couple of months...though it won't be as far down in the sky, and hitting my eyes sideways for long.

  1. ...isn't it great that some things require so little care!

    1. I was always amazed at my mother's violets...and she'd tell me all she did for them. Now I've got them all over the place, and pretty-much ignore them! Must be something about being an elder lady.

  5. So please tell me your orchid secret. I have been avoiding putting mine into direct sunlight as per instructions but I am tempted every winter day to do just that, let them bask and give me a t least one shoot of a potential flower instead of fleshy leaves.

    1. My house is pretty cool, but mainly colder at window sills since each night it gets into low temps. So the orchids are in sunshine during the day, but not on windowsills any more. Having southern exposure gives them about 9 hours of light. Since they are near the little heating units, I'm watering them every other day, just a bit, because their soil dries out so much....oh, and they have shallow dishes now, and twice the orchid soil than when I bought them. I fertilized them when I brought them in the house with a standard liquid fertilizer, a couple of months ago. Do what feels good to you...I'm certainly no expert, and lots of them do post info on line!

    1. Go for it. The tiny little plants, when repotted, just keep on producing!
