With the sun coming into the car as I tried to capture the snow in Asheville on Tues afternoon, there are reflections on my window. It's almost a black and white image.
Today's quote:
“A book must be the axe for the frozen sea inside us,” Kafka
I've never read his work, but want to sometime!
Sharing with Sepia Saturday, where many (?) photographers will volunteer a sepia photo or two or...?
There are times when opening a window just for a photo is not on!!
ReplyDeleteIt would have made sense to reach across and open the window...or even get out of the car. But it was just a passing glimpse that caught my eye, so that's how I give it to you.
Delete...reflections can change the look of things.
ReplyDeleteI knew the sun was playing with my view, but just tried a couple of times.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteFun reflections, I see your face masks. Take care, enjoy your weekend!
I have stopped carrying around all the old masks, and now am trying to just wear the KN-95!
DeleteIt's strange how photographs make things like reflections and shadows take on a reality which we are usually able to filter out. I think I read some Kafka when i was a teenager but couldn't make much of it; it would be a good idea to give it another try now.
ReplyDeleteYep, while feeling completely isolated, should try Kafka. And a few other authors who I quote, but don't know much about.
DeleteTaking pictures while driving? I've tried that at red lights only.
ReplyDeleteI was in a parking lot, car stopped...but about to go home. So my thoughts were kind of a "wow, look at that snow they got here in Asheville!" and "I wonder if there's anywhere else I should go to while I'm in Asheville." But there wasn't and so I went on home. That sprinkling of snow and ice cycles on the sign were much more than we got up here in Black Mountain. We're kind of sheltered by the mountains on either side, so we don't get as much weather usually.
DeleteNice sepia shot. I like the wise Kafka quote.
ReplyDeleteThere are more wise men in the world than those of us who might appreciate them...or so it seems!
DeleteThose reflections are cool.
ReplyDeleteI liked the Kafka quote. I'd say to get a taste of his work, read "Metamorphosis," which I read for a class in German novellas.
Oh that's a good idea. I think I've read a synopsis, or perhaps just quotes from it.
DeleteTaking photos through windows is a challenge!
ReplyDeleteYes indeed it is! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
DeleteSometimes reflections add interest tot a photo.
ReplyDeleteYes, but these are such a hodgepodge that I can't tell what is what.
DeleteI have never read Kafka either, but my daughter used Metamorphosis as the theme of her art exhibit to graduate from college. She carved a part of the book into a coffee table and called it her "kafka table." haha. That was not the main part of her show, just a side note.
ReplyDeleteThat's fun, the kafka table. I dare say Metamorphosis would work well as a theme for a college final art project.
DeleteLast week here in Asheville we had most trees frosted with ice from root to tiptop. I thought about taking a photo but knew it would never match winter's magic. I noticed the reflection of your masks too.
ReplyDeleteI have never read Franz Kafka either but I recently came across him in a great biography of one of his musical friends. It title is "Alice's Piano" The Life of Alice Herz-Sommer by Melissa Müller, Reinhard Piechocki · 2012. Alice Herz-Somer was a Prague-born Jewish classical pianist who survived imprisonment in the Theresienstadt concentration camp. After the war she returned to music and lived in London to the age of 100. It's one of the most inspiring and uplifting books about music, love, and life that I've ever read.
Oh dear, you've now given me another book to add to my list! Thank you. Once I wade through "Metamorphosis" I'll love having a slightly smaller book that's inspiring. I've only 20 some odd books on the list at this point. And have stopped reading just because I needed a break. It's amazing how much time I was spending between the covers of different kinds of books. Thanks.
DeleteYou meant to get one picture, and got another instead. I've done that. Sometimes they're throw-aways. But sometimes, they're accidental keepers! :)
