This morning I was greeted with this new first blossom on this orchid plant...on Wed. Jan 12!
Her stem of buds is extended to the side of the pot so far that I can't figure out a way to support it. I found a tall piece of pottery sculpture to be the crutch.
Another figure holds the weight of all those blooms as well as the extra stem on the other one. No they don't have names.
Sharing with Garden Bloggers Bloom Day tomorrow!
I remember the excitement when my mother's orchids eventually bloomed.
ReplyDeleteI always wondered why giraffes have those two little "knobs" on top of their heads, now it's all clear to me.
At least this little guy has found his purpose in life!
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteLove your giraffe and the beautiful orchid bloom. Take care, enjoy your day! Have a happy weekend!
Have a good weekend yourself...I imagine the snow we're expecting Sunday will be coming your way too!
DeleteBeautiful! Now I want to try growing orchids.
ReplyDeleteLots of stuff to learn.
Just buy one that has an instruction slip on it...and do whatever it says! Fortunately they're sold when blooming!
Delete...they beat a stick!
ReplyDeleteSticks didn't have enough purchase in the shallow dishes so were bending along the direction the flowers were going...toward sun and earth!
DeleteYour support pieces are so much fun.
ReplyDeleteIt took a while to see the need and the answers!
DeleteLove the color of this yellow orchid. Beautiful. And the giraffe is pretty cool too!
ReplyDeleteI do too, but thought it was closer to white last year. Oh well, I'll take beauty in any color! Mr. Giraffe says thank you.
DeleteWhat delicate flowers. I saw the giraffe and wondered but you explained it had a job to do.
ReplyDeleteIndeed he does an upstanding job of helping Ms. Orchid bear her blossoms!
DeleteHello indeed!!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if these epiphytic plants would be best grown hanging down as they would in the wild?...
Good point. I haven't ever seen them that way, but other air loving plants do.
DeleteBarbara, Love your orchid blooms! We had one orchid that lasted for many years. Nice job of integrating decorative objects with the plant and its needs... Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave...Hope you all don't get too much snow on Sun. You should see the grocery stores and gas stations here! You'd think Armageddon!
DeleteHow lovely! I have a yellow orchid with lots of buds but no blooms yet. Nice to see yours!
ReplyDeleteI think your success with your orchid helped inspire me to have these. I draw the line at three!
DeleteNow, that is clever - using the giraffe to hold up the pretty yellow orchid. I have never known what to do with orchids when I have received them as gifts. I can't seem to ever be able to keep them alive. You know what you are doing, that's for sure!
ReplyDeleteThe orchids are looking great, they obviously like where they are located. I love the giraffe, it's doing double duty, looking good and giving support. Very creative, Barbara.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful.
ReplyDeleteYour orchids are beautiful. It’s always so exciting when you see those little flower spikes come up and then blooms for months. I love the yellow!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteHappy Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day!
Your orchid is beautiful, and the giraffe is so cool!
ReplyDeleteYour pottery serves as interesting plant supports. Beautiful orchids that appear extremely happy under your care.
ReplyDeleteI love the orchid. Mine is white! Might bloom again, too!
