The most important discoveries will provide answers to questions that we do not yet know how to ask and will concern objects we have not yet imagined. -John N. Bahcall, astrophysicist (30 Dec 1935-2005)

How about the man who came up with the Gaia theory...the beginning of looking at climate change?
Who do you think the children of today would consider to be their role models of powerful men?
...the good, the bad and the ugly!
ReplyDeleteWell, the point is to find out what male role models do look like to children in 2022.
DeleteI am not sure if I am easy with or about anyone powerful
ReplyDeleteIt's the word that most closely comes to role models...the man that a regular kid would recognize and perhaps emulate.
DeleteI recognized most of them, but the only one I think of as handsome and powerful is Obama. Well, maybe Mark Twain, too. :-)
ReplyDeleteHa ha! I guess we women might be having trouble figuring out which man a kid would think of as a person of power.
DeleteInteresting question. I never think of "powerful men" but I do think of powerful humans, the ones who work endlessly to make the world a better place.
ReplyDeleteThere are very few photos of many of the spiritual teachers, but I could have put a Dalai Lama in there, I guess.
DeleteI do not admire powerful men. I like the ones who walk softly. No sticks. There is a difference between strength and power, I suppose. Men with power frighten me. I admire the writers who can inspire. There are too many (mostly) white men who abuse their power.

Good point, especially with the recent history of abuses of power. I started this quest because of the kids who were killing littler kids in schools. I wondered who they had grown up thinking they might like to be some day. I have had a lot of trouble finding anyone, let alone a good role model.
ReplyDeleteWhile I admire several of the individuals you presented here, Barbara, I am not honestly certain which one children today would consider as their role models. Perhaps, if a fictional character were included, like ones in popular computer games, some would select one of them as sad as that is to admit.
ReplyDeleteI need to consult my grandchildren to find out who the heroes are in the games. I watch Jeopardy almost daily, and am a complete idiot when those games are in the clues. I would guess Spider Man is still one, but don't know about Super Man any more.
DeleteI don’t know if children understand power. They would probably think of superheroes or their dad.
ReplyDeleteAs I scrolled through the pictures I was thinking about who I'd consider powerful. I'd decided on doctors and scientists -- until you tripped me up asking who kids today would choose. A certain age group would probably opt for a fictional superhero, but real world heroes? I'd have to ask my grandkids.
