Beautiful to see a harp played in the street!
This is my contribution for this week to Sepia Saturday.
Irish Harp made by John Eagan, 1820.I heard Elizabeth Cunningham play an Irish Harp in a geodesic dome called The Lightcenter, here in Black Mountain. She also spoke of some of her writings. The Maeve Chronicles are delightful about Mary of Magdala.
I've heard many harps in my lifetime, and loved them all!
Harpo Marx plays in the movie "Horse Feathers" 1935Check out Sepia Saturday to see what others have come up with, based on this prompt (or maybe not!)
Today's quote:
"A man can stand anything except a succession of ordinary days,"
I'm very fond of harps too. Ever heard of the Welsh triple harp?

Robin Huw Bowen explains about the instrument in the video.
Have a good weekend.
What an interesting short about the Welsh triple harp...so glad he had subtitles, as I don't understand Welsh. And it certainly does play beautifully! Thanks John!
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI remember watching Harpo Marx play the harp!
Have a great weekend!
Thanks Eileen...hope you have a great weekend too...though it's half over by now. I have heard several friends also play the harp, but haven't ever tried it myself!
DeleteThere is a harpist locally or was a few years ago. I am not sure if she is still with us.
ReplyDeleteWell, maybe you'll have a chance to take a photo of her sometime...
DeleteOh I had forgotten about Harpo Marx. It is lovely to hear a harp being played.
ReplyDeleteI thought of him right away, and know he also played concerts...but this clip seemed to show the sweetness that he exhibited so often in films.
DeleteAside from in an orchestra, I recall a harp being played in the War Museum here one Remembrance Day.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, that must have been a beautiful experience, to have the mellow harp music coupled with memories.
DeleteHarps are so beautiful. Last Friday they had one in church and it reminded me of their beautiful sounds.
ReplyDeleteOh you are so fortunate to have heard a harp in church.
DeleteIt is a beautiful instrument. I know I have a cousin who has written and published music for the harp or so my mother once told me. Sad to admit I never heard her play and I have no contact with her now. Maybe I should google her to see if she's noted as a harp player. I found her http://www.refreshingsprings.net/biography.html
ReplyDeleteLast time I sent her a Christmas card was 2014 but I never got one in return.
That's great that you have a talented family member. I guess time takes us all apart. I've renewed a friendship with several cousins through FaceBook lately, which I never expected would happen. Thanks for telling me about your cousin.
DeleteHarps are lovely!
ReplyDeleteYes they certainly are. Thanks for your comment here, Jenn!
DeleteNice! It would be sweet to play a harp, but I probably don’t have the patience.
ReplyDeleteI don't have the callouses necessary to play strings with my fingers...couldn't do a guitar for the same reason.
DeleteThat Irish harp is an amazing work of art. I wonder if its sound matched the quality of its craftsmanship. Though the Marx Brothers are famous for their comedy, I think the musicianship of Harpo and Chico set them apart from other acts. Thanks for sharing that. And I learned something new from the video of the beautiful Welsh triple harp.
ReplyDeleteWe have some surprising aspects as bloggers...very diverse talents!
DeleteThe Irish harp is gorgeous, and the Harpo Marx video was great! :)
ReplyDeleteOh, that Irish harp! What a beauty!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you included Harpo. He earned his name.
ReplyDeleteA gorgeous harp! And of course Harpo's concert from Horse Feathers. Amazing how he introduced this classical instrument to so many through the Marx Brothers humor.
