At Red House

There's a new show, in which I have nothing submitted. But I still was signed up to sit on the reception desk for Sunday, from the last time I had one piece in the last gallery exhibit at the Red House, a.k.a. Swannanoa Valley Fine Arts League. We have a membership, and if we wish to display in the gallery we have to sign up to be the receptionist for everyone...making sales if possible.

For an old house, it has pretty good heating...here's my laptop on the desk, and I love seeing the wire sculpture of the heron in the other room.

This show is for those who have a studio here in the Red House, as well as new members.  There are some gorgeous things on display! So I'l just share 5 more here.

Donna Davis has perfected water color as art.

Nancy Moore didn't have a title on this watercolor.

And here I am welcoming the visitors who want a warm place to hang out until Black Mountain got above freezing out there. Soon the sprinkling of snow melted and the high winds calmed down again.

I'll share more of the Red House art over at Alchemy of Clay, after I finish sharing the art from the James Museum in St. Petersburg FL. Now back to my regular life, and maybe to share more of my Florida vacation!

Dusting of snow and Red House day

Snow coming down pretty hard, but only for about an hour. That was Sat. night, Jan 4, 2020.

8:00 on Sunday Jan. 5, 2020. Next day started out pretty cold, but by noon the mercury was above the freezing mark, and lots of sunshine made people want to be outside.

That sun helped me clear the windows of the car pretty fast!

Just a dusting, the weatherman said.

We had a lot of visitors at the Red House Gallery, where I was volunteer receptionist for visitors. There were also a lot of studio artists coming in to work. That was the first time I'd been there when it felt so much like a community, since I don't work in one of the studios there.

Looking toward the library from the Red House.

That's a chimney built to provide birds a place to roost...no other purpose. Hope it works.  The two story brick building on the right side (behind trees) is the Black Mountain Center for the Arts.

I took some photos of the exhibit at the Red House, and will share them soon at Alchemy of Clay.

The opening reception at the gallery is Jan 10 from 5-7 pm. See you there!

Saturday in St. Petersburg

Going home over the Sunshine Skyway Bridge...reflecting it's changing colors onto the clouds above. The last Saturday of 2019.

Great seafood dinner after a long museum visit! Remember I'm going backward in this saga...

Here was our appetizer of mussels, before I had a wonderful almond crusted Black Grouper...and took home half of it for the next day! Sorry, no photos. The margarita was Marty's.

Here I'm seated with son, Marty, in front of the fountain at the James Museum of Western Art.

And since I have another blog with focus on art...I'll share about what I saw there, there! It will take a few weeks to show all the various art at Alchemy of Clay~!

But there were a couple of other Saturday photos to share.

Looking from island back toward St. Petersburg.

Marty and Barb on the walkway outside her condo.

On the closest white light post is a bird with a white breast and head.  He's just an osprey!

I love the old buildings in St. Petersburg FL.

 And spots of colorful murals!
The hotel across from the entertainment venue of Janus Live, where Barb frequently works putting together concerts.

Studio photographs

A repost of two of my favorite photos of my parents...from long before I knew them!

Here's the blog from 2013, which also was shared on Sepia Saturday....I'll cut and paste the whole thing for you.

My parents pose

May I introduce my father, George Elmore Rogers, Jr.
I will give honor to his life in another post.

My mother, Mataley Mozelle Webb Munhall Rogers

Look for more about her life HERE.
There are more pictures of my father on that posting as well.

These are studio portraits of my parents, way before I came along.  I don't know the cause for their getting these pictures, but they did attend the same high school, Jefferson, in San Antonio, TX.

The pin in his lapel is called the Cross and the Crown, which is an emblem that Christian Scientists identify with.

"B... Studio of San Antonio, Texas," is a confusing name in  the lower right corner.  Buider? Baider? Bieder? whatever...

My mother's hairdo with a Marcel wave, has a lot of 20s influence.  She was born in 1917, so by the time she looked like this, it was definitely the mid 30s.  They were married in 1936.  I didn't see any pictures of them together before '34.

This is a contribution to Sepia Saturday, where lots of fun and old (or maybe fun or old) photos are shared.  I can't follow the theme for this week, so am just sharing some pictures that are interesting.

I'm submitting this for the first Sepia Saturday of 2020...similar hair style! But not the similar smile!

Last day in Brandon FL

Saying goodbye to my grands, Will and Cayenne.  She's going back to college, he's continuing work in Temple Terrace. My other grandson, Michael, is busy working or playing computer games.

My favorite Florida sky view!

Neighbors got into decorating!

Another neighbor also decorated their yard.

We joined a bunch of other folks parking near a movie theatre.

We had already purchased our tickets...to Star Wars! I noted that the previews didn't include Little Women...what's going on? Many mothers and sisters of all the SW guys might have wanted to go to it, (like me.) I liked the movie, but came home pretty confused. Will have to watch it again sometime to straighten out who is on who's side.

I love this little Roman guy!

Here comes my son, Marty after parking the car!

We could smell the delightful popcorn, and walked right by it, saving our money!

Happy New Year from Florida to South Carolina

I was awake after all...around midnight last night. But nobody to say happy new year to, nor to kiss, so I was asleep by the time I heard some fire works outside somewhere. And that was fine with me until the sun came up. Oh how beautiful! And I heard birds!

Moving backwards through my vacation...we shall see how this works.  I spent Mon. night at a motel in Hardeeville SC. Last post I arrived home.  Here I was still traveling on I-95 at the junction of I-16.

For a change I did click a shot of the Savanah River through the passengers' window.

And propping the phone on the steering wheel didn't quite work to capture the "Welcome to South Carolina" sign.
That's the South Carolina flag below the stars and stripes.

Earlier on Monday Dec 30, 2019, I came into Georgia (on I-95)

After leaving Florida of course!

US 301 is a great alternate route diagonally across FL, but does have speed traps in some places.

An interesting church (while at a stop light) in Bushnell, FL.
