Back to Black Mountain NC

 Personal update:

Came home Tuesday..I'd say afternoon, but had to wake up at 4:15 am to catch the 7 am flight from nearby (1 hour drive away) Durango to Denver. Caught some breakfast at 9 in a Starbucks in Denver airport. Then somehow missed having lunch since I arrived in Asheville around 3:10 pm.

Dawn in Durango, getting ready to take off.

The last views of snow covered peaks.

The huge Denver airport...thank heaven for the cart to ride in between gates

Much of central US seems to be these checker board fields, with an occasional circle based on irrigation methods.

Finally we passed over a river, and saw some tree covered hills/mountains.

ARRIVAL:

That landing was one for the books...probably the Captain has sore arms from holding the plane steady as possible with cross winds. He'd announced over the speaker about 30 minutes before that the airport was telling planes to go to Atlanta because there were gusting 51 mph cross winds on the runway.

But even though we all were holding on, (and probably lots of prayers were being said internally,) with all the bumps we had the plane landed safely. And did we let out a big sigh of relief? Nope. There was a round of applause in the full cabin!

My seat-mate for this flight was "Squirrel" - that's her name apparently. I asked if I could take her picture with the Steam Punk hat. She was interesting to chat with, and we found a few commonalities. For instance, we both have lung conditions (and I wore my mask all the time except when snacking).

HOME AGAIN:

So I took a nap that afternoon, and ran out for a fast food dinner. I've been spoiled the last week with wonderful home cooked meals by my son and mainly by my daughter-in-law! Anyone want to come be my partner and I'll cook for you, but you must clean up the kitchen afterwards! I have at least two sons who have those arrangements with their spouses!

Sharing with Thankful Thursday!

Now back to my usual routine of downloading photos!!

    1. She would fit right in with the streets of downtown Asheville, but rather stood out on the plane!

    1. She was quite a bit older than I originally thought, in her late 30s or early 40s.

  3. It’s tiring. You probably won’t be perky for a few days.

    1. Finally had acclimated the bod to two hours later, now have to go back to two hours earlier for everything. Lots of naps. But am going to have brain tested, though a complete transfer to a new brain might be the best idea...though rather unlikely unless I time travelled to the future..also rather unlikely!

  4. Rest well, Barb! That is no easy trip. Funny how east-west or west-east travel is harder on us than north south or south-north. Time zone changes, I guess?
Love the look of your seatmate!

    1. I'm basically a whimp...as I used to be able to fly just about anywhere. Oh well. I'm so glad I got to see the young ones one more time!

  5. Hi Barbara! I went backwards to look at all your photos from Colorado--so glad you had a nice time with your family and visted such a pretty place as Telluride--I hope the high elevation wasn't too hard on your breathing. The San Juan Mountains in that area of CO are so beautful--we only visited Telluride once, but had a wonderful time there one November riding the gondola up the mountains and exploring the town.

    1. Glad to hear you've had a good Telluride visit...more in season than mine! I've got a few zillion more photos, but will limit them!

    1. My windows are open as I blog...and yet I am carried back to the place I just came from. I think travel by air means parts of me are still arriving, and I'll eventually all be here. Maybe!

  8. So glad to see that you made it home safely! I went back through your posts and what a trip you have had. I hope you didn't have trouble with the altitude. It has always bothered me in Colorado!

  9. Hi Barbara, Squirrel looks like quite the character! With my luck I have been subjected to kids sitting behind me and kicking my seat or an airsick woman sitting next to me barfing in the bag while her husband ate both of their meals. Welcome home! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
