This painting really should show who the artist is…but unfortunately. whoever next tweaked it has thought their smart saying was more important. It certainly is important, but not for people who look like this. These ladies already know just what fun they are still having!
So today’s laugh is that I’m filling out some application papers (carefully with my shaky writing) and I list what I have to find to send with them. I have most of the i.d documents, but where is the birth certificate? So I start looking. I don’t even bother with the desk. Nope, it would be too easy. Last big place for papers is a file drawer. Nope, at least not on first glance through. Next the old drawers which I’ve stored old checks and lots of computer disks (I can record CD’s but who would bother these days?) Nope.
But a big wow. On the bottom of the drawer with all those blank CD’s of whatever format, I find 3 envelopes with US Savings Bonds. Wow. I went to the bank the next day to cash them in. I would hope 40 + years means they’ve a bit of interest. They were a wonderful surprise, which I'll share with my sons.
I fix dinner, and look at least one more place.
And tucked in among books are a bunch of old photos…which haven’t been scanned yet. But as I start to do so, the printer wants to update, so that’s what’s happening first. And I’m eating a bite at a time while writing this and waiting for the computer/printer to be done.
I tried just taking photos of the old photos…but they all kept having reflections, so the scanner is the way to go…after all that’s a feature that I was glad to get on this printer!
Of course I’ll show you a few! They aren’t the best of the batches, sort of the seconds, but I couldn’t throw them away. Now of course I’m glad.
In 1946 my little sister was born. Here I must have just stepped out of the house to have our photo taken, as I still have a nice hairbow in place. They never stayed there long if I remember right. I'm perhaps having my 4th birthday here.
Little sister is probably about 6 months old here. Isn't that "go-cart" a great little device for her to sit and be rolled around in?
Of course I know better than to expect the laws to change in the next 16 months. But then I expect Congress to be a majority of law abiding thinking not-automaton human beings, who can start to disassemble the disasters which will have happened in the meantime.
Many people unfortunately will have suffered due to the tRump regime where the rich were the only people that were benefiting.
But one form of resistance is laughter. Let's see if we can find the joys that are now available in our lives.

Another old photo to share:
My father leaning over his parents, with me in the middle. Names: George Rogers Jr, George Rogers Sr., Barbara Rogers, and Ada Swasey Rogers.
I can relate to the searching for one thing but getting distracted by other things that I find instead... ;) And also the difficulty with reflections when trying to copy old photos using the camera. The majority of my old photos are glued into albums so that's often the only alternative. Nice childhood photo of you and your sister!
ReplyDeleteOh the stuck photos are such a problem for digitalizing, aren't they? I even set up a upside down tri-pod to put the album underneath the camera once. Then photographed each page completely.
DeleteI hope you eventually find the birth certificate. You'll probably unearth a lot more interesting items in the process.
ReplyDeleteThat's true...each unpacking is a treasure chest.
Delete...have you always been the center of attention?
ReplyDeleteNope, just today.
DeleteThat was quite the discovery. I looked for an ink refill in a drawer and found hand lotion. That is how we are the same but different. 😀
ReplyDeleteEnjoy smooth skin but not being able to print!
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful you have these old family photo. I hope you always find something to laugh about. Have a great day!
Keep on laughing...and I love that it's a form of resistance too!
DeleteNo birth certificate yet? But what a find of those Bonds. We keep things like that in a fire box.
ReplyDeleteI did too for years and years. Then when I moved the last time (8 years ago) I decided to skip that, since I had a metal 2 drawer filing cabinet. Not exactly fireproof, but it allowed me to file everything. Once I ran offices like a clock. But do I file things now? Nope, all papers are in 4 piles on a shelf by the file cabinet. Every once in a while I do a purge, when they threaten to fall over! I guess this is my rebellious self that is now retired and says nobody pays me to straighten out the papers. Now I'm paying the price of having lost that birth certificate. I wonder if it's in a box that hasn't ever been unpacked since I moved! Well, first place to winnow is the file cabinet thoroughly. Soon!
DeleteBoy, I feel you! I did a huge purge when I retired from storytelling. All those story ideas, program plans, workshop outlines, research folders! Out they went save for a select few. Just couldn't part with those. My important papers are all in one Manila envelope, from when we applied for our passports. That made me gather them all up. It irritated me that I had to provide divorce papers and marriage licenses. Larry didn't have to do that! I seriously regret ever taking my husbands' names. Dumb move and I have advised my granddaughters not to do that. Most of they haven't listened, and one has been married 4 times! Imagine the pile of paperwork she will have to amass!
ReplyDeleteGood for you for lightening up your paper trail of life! I divorced back to my maiden name, so can actually put "single" on forms rather than divorced. Ha ha! I just feel for people who merge two names with a hyphen. That gets so cumbersome!
DeleteWhat a delight to find hidden treasure!
ReplyDeleteI also found a lovely shell which had been a gift. Need to share it's picture sometime.
DeleteMy paper trail has diminished considrably through the years. Before I moved over here, I scanned all the photos I had plus the ones my mother gave me. It saved a lot of aggravation later on.
ReplyDeleteYou are so smart. I also have a hard drive full of files of photos with duplications, and some thumb drives which are full of, you guessed it duplications!
DeleteHi Barbara, I've done so many stupid things I'll never run out of things to laugh about...but then at this age I'm lucky if I remember what I remembered yesterday! Love old family photos and the quality of yours is quite good. Nice find with those savings bonds! I have a bunch of old stock certificates...pretty but no value! Love the "Things to Ponder"! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
ReplyDeleteI love your family photos! It sounds like your methods are very similar to mine. I start one project, find something and move to the next, find something else and move to that . . . And what was it I was looking for? I call it the "look, a bright shiny object" way of life.
