July in Black Mountain and good news

 Tuesdays Treasures

The description of the platter. I looked it up and couldn't find an explanation. But the floral artist came up with one (below.)

These simple forms were among my favorites at the Black Mountain Center for the Arts exhibit for Art in Bloom 2025.

The delicate foliage in bright sunshine at the Black Mountain Library just made me smile. I may miss the plantings that were there before our Beautification Committee pulled them out, but there are some interesting things they've put in.

These prolific plants just grace the top banks of a tiered garden slope by Lake Tomahawk.

Many seniors spent a lot of hours at the Lakeview Center for Active Aging before September 27, 2024. That's the day Hurricane Helene dumped enough water it climbed up the lower level walls and left the building unusable for events to this day. The tiers show the greenery on the right which is kind of dull, to my eye anyway.

But the Black Mountain pool is open every day and the temperature is great for a dip, even if lots of other folks are there too!

We are setting sail again. On July 13, 2025 our boat ‘Handala’ will depart from Siracusa, Italy to break Israel’s illegal blockade. This mission is for the children of Gaza.

Just weeks ago, Israeli forces illegally seized our boat ‘Madleen’ and abducted 12 unarmed civilians aboard her in international waters.

Since March, more than 6,572 Palestinians have been killed, over 23,000 injured, and hundreds shot while waiting for food. The children of Gaza now face famine, disease, and trauma few of us can imagine.

The purpose of life is not to be happy.
It is to be useful, to be honorable,
to be compassionate, to have it
make some difference that
you have lived and lived well.
