On the parkway

 Blue Ridge Parkway trip.

We were struck by many fallen trees, and the lack of leaves on some still standing...showing results of last years Hurricane Helene disaster which kept the parkway closed until this month for much of this stretch,.

Our goal was to drive to Little Switzerland and then Spruce-Pine (off the parkway.)

I'll post a few of our early sightings of perhaps a bit of color. You know how the first flash is always worth the picture...even though it will look so blah when you see something better. But 99 photos for the day, and I've definitely taken out half of the early ones!

More will be revealed...

More to come will include a Septic Tank Truck!!

  1. Every single picture of nature is here breathtaking. And I'm so glad I found this place, your blogsite. The headline makes me smile... my husband is 69 and I hope to celebrate my 69th birthday in December.
The FUN section here in your Post made me laugh out loud... although it's actually more enough to make us cry, considering everything that's going wrong in the world.

    Greetings from Heidrun 🌻

    1. We definitely have to look around to find the things that make us laugh still, in spite of lots of circumstances that don't. Welcome.

  2. Love the signs. So nice to see roads opening. Recovery always takes more time than planned on.

    1. And half the population of the southern states was there last Monday! So it seemed at the overlooks anyway. So I don't have as many shots from them as usual.

  4. Finally that section is open. That took a while. I'm guessing they had to move a lot of trees as well as repair the road. Thank you for the trip!

  5. My daughter and I saw a sign yesterday (not on a funeral home!) that said, "Result of glass coffins: Remains to be seen."
It took us both a second.

    1. It's so nice that wildflowers are so beautiful when the senior center is still not being repaired. The Valley Echo had a good article about it today. I'll try to find the link to include it tomorrow.

    1. Thanks...I do fine riding around in a car. Not so great walking anywhere. Drat it all. Everyone else just walked hither and yon!

  11. I'm glad to see the hurricane damaged parts of the parkway opened up again. WE drove the Blue Ridge Parkway a few times when we lived on the east coast--it is a very beautiful area.
