I was visiting him last Monday (a week) and then on Thursday I received several notices that the business is closing in November.
So I quickly made an appointment with a doctor's office that I had gone to before this one became my medical home. I am so sad to lose these dear care-givers...who I've gotten to know pretty well over many years. The office was just down the street from me also, so very convenient when I felt bad.
In other doctoring news, I saw a specialist to figure out whether or not I have a blood cancer, known as multiple meylanoma. I was diagnosed with neuropathy in my legs, without any known cause, so this is one of the causes to check out. So more tests will be run, and probably the new doc will be the one following up on things eventually.
I see the neurologist about essential tremors in my hands, and the pulmonologist about bronchietasis, and then have my veins in my legs given ultra-sounds before the end of this month. Dermatologist is next month. My friend has named these specialists B's Team.
And yesterday when I was going to go to market for fresh fish, I had a flat tire waiting for me in the parking lot. The insurance road side service was quick and efficient. I already needed to purchase 2 new tires, and this one had picked up a nail apparently. No fresh fish this week. I'm driving around on that little donut tire, and staying off the interstate till new tires are on the car.

Hello,
ReplyDeleteI hope you have some good results from all the medical tests. It is not fun having a flat tire.
The fall colors and tree are lovely, it is still looking green here. Take care, have a great week!
Thanks for your good wishes Eileen! We're still mostly green this year...but maybe up on higher elevations. I hope to have time to drive the 15 miles up to an overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway this week sometime.
DeleteThat's a lot of testing. I hope for good results. With neuropathy they often conclude they don't know why.
ReplyDeleteI'm laughing, because that's where they are starting, not knowing why. So here goes tests, and maybe never get an answer!
Delete...best wishes for navigating the golden year. I picked up a screw in a tire last week!
ReplyDeleteGolden season of autumn should be coming soon here...but of course not quite yet.
DeleteThe one thing you have in abundance is doctors. Getting a family doctor here is considered a win. TG, we have one.
ReplyDeleteI've got a good insurance plan (knock on wood), so don't have to pay that much to see specialists. And nothing for hospitalization and all its tests. Whew, that's a relief.
DeleteI would be hiding under the bed if I had to get all of those tests. I am neither brave nor sane about "procedures" and testing. I admire you for facing things head on and getting done what must be done.
ReplyDeleteAnd now let me say this- get your new tires on! My husband was in the automotive business for many, many years and as he always said, you only have four little bits of rubber between you and the road and you want all of them to be in as good a shape as possible.
First thing in the morning I'll be trying to get a tire appointment. I agree with your husband's summary. Medical issues have been part of my life ever since I left Christian Science. I had to learn science and doctors didn't actually replace God, who I'd been praying to for healing for all the years before. Now it's kind of wholistic in energies as well as scientific methods.
DeleteMy general practitioner/internist that I loved and had been going to for many years closed his practice when the lease on his office came up for renewal and it was more years than he wanted to commit to. The next one I had that I really liked moved her practice closer to where she lived which was too far away. I really like my current doctor too and since she's younger than me I have high hopes she won't be retiring or moving farther away.
ReplyDeleteI'll let you know what I think of my new doc after my first appointment. Another friend is also doctor shopping now, since she also was going to the same practice. Not what we would choose to do!
DeleteIt is a worry when medical or dental practices close ..garages too.
ReplyDeleteI am fortunately that my garage people have survived the flood from last year, just by a few feet from the water. Other businesses along that strip have closed.
DeleteAnother downside of being old--favorite caregivers retire or die. And the replacements look like teenagers.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness yes. Are they shaving yet? I've got a new woman doc who has an East Indian name, which I look forward to.
DeleteIt's good to have doctors younger than we are - they will be around for awhile and they are more up to date.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good way to look at things. My current (retiring) doc has definitely kept up with medicines, and I've appreciated that about him.
DeletePraying for good results from all your specialists. I am so glad you are proactive on your health.
ReplyDeleteDarn car tire. I hope your new tires can be installed soon.
Fingers crossed that I can get the new tires this week. No doc appointments are scheduled!
DeleteGlad you weren't driving on the busy road when you picked up the nail. It happened to me and I was happy to have a real sized tire for a spare. Good luck with your specialists and all the testing.
