Blue Ridge Parkway is open

We drove down to Brevard, and then over US 276 to the parkway, just south of the Pisgah Inn, where we went for a picnic and then desert. Then we drove up the Parkway to Black Mountain...well, close to it exiting on US 70. The Parkway continued all the way to the Mt. Mitchell State Park, but then is still closed further north where it opens again.

There were nice views, but the colors have NOT changed yet (as of Sept. 22, 2025)

Road to left used to go to trout farms...I wonder if they are still there. It's hard for me to figure out the sign.

Even the sumac is just yellow and orange, instead of it's bright deep reds. Maybe more will change later.

People are posting old photos all over the internet to get tourists to come to see the beautiful colors of leaves...it's probably pretty disappointing for them.

Looking Glass Falls is right next to the highway.

But the bright morning sun made it a bit difficult to see!

There are nice steps going down to the base of the falls, for those who want to climb back up. We didn't.

Teresa caught a strange rainbow with her phone camera...mine didn't see it.

I'll share a few more photos soon.

  1. Hello,
I've been wondering if the trees were turning along the Skyline Drive.
It is good that the parkway is open. Love the views and the waterfall.
Take care, have a wonderful week!

    1. A couple hundred miles further north for the Skyline Drive. A blogger "Linda" goes there frequently. Her blog is called The View from Squirrel Ridge, with this link https://webcroft.blogspot.com/
I'll be going back in a few weeks to see more Parkway fauna further north!

  3. Gorgeous countryside, looks like a place where one could disappear into and never be found. Soft mountains!

    1. Yes, the mountains are old old old, and yet there are plenty of rocks still to stumble over! A lot of wilderness still out there!

  4. On our way to Chimney Rock last summer where we were staying, there were several EXTREMELY confusing detours. But we made it eventually.
    Lovely waterfall.

    1. The road in Chimney Rock was washed away, along with the village! Coming from Black Mountain, and even Hendersonville became impossible...and Lake Lure still needs to be approached from the north-east. I'll not be visiting there any time soon.

    1. It is really beautiful and the parkway is open most of the year...except winter when ice causes tunnels to be closed.

    1. I did do a bit of editing, because the falls were so dark compared to the greenery!

  8. What a great road trip, Linda, you were on and we did see some color changes recently in PA on our current road trip. I am wondering if the fall colors will be good in New England as there were not many changes inNH before we left home last week.

    1. Glad that you've seen some pretty colors as you travel. I do hope the drought conditions haven't affected New England's fall colors.

  9. Neat! Interesting that the other camera picked up a rainbow. Wouldn’t it be fun to have a camera that picked up rainbows all the time?

  10. Even though the leaves haven't changed, the place is just gorgeous. Big fan of waterfalls, especially those that can be seen without hiking down and up steep hills!
