Thanksgiving Parades

Felix the Cat was the first inflated balloon critter in the Macy's Parade in 1927

1923 parade had animals from the zoo, not circus animals!

Immigrants seeing the statue of liberty almost at the end of their travels. Imagine their joy at this arrival!

Saying Grace, by Norman Rockwell

Norman Rockwell painting Saving Grace, 1951

Today's quote:
There is always something to be grateful for, even when life is hard and times are tough.

  3. A wonderful gallery of the parade - I bet those scantily clad dancers were chilly in November weather. The most striking image for me was the view of the Statue of Liberty by emigrants arriving in the USA, as it linked so well with my post this week. Thank you.

    1. Yes that photo just struck me as what our country is all about...and then I read your post, just serendipity I'd say!

  4. A great post to celebrate Thanksgiving. The Macy's Thanksgiving Parade is always fun to watch. The picture of the parade with the first inflated balloon entry was fun. Mickey Mouse, of course! Now those inflatable entries are HUGE and multiple with so many beloved characters represented.
Loved your last two photos - of Rockwell's "Saying Grace" & him painting it. A perfect finish. I think I like that painting of his better than his family Thanksgiving painting although both do the holiday full justice. :)

    1. Yes, I probably will post the family painting also sometime this week. Oh, that first parade balloon was Felix the CAT...but later I think there's a shot in the collage of an early Micky...so different!

    1. I got stuck in traffic a couple of times going to Asheville today...everyone wanted to go first when lanes merged...I just went my merry way, letting folks in if they insisted. I have a friend who's flying to upstate NY on Wed. and I of course will be concerned about her as she travels. So glad I'm staying home after all.

  6. Thank you for this nostalgic look back. I am old enough to have a relationship with Felix and many happy memories. That wonderful, wonderful cat! Always enjoyable to visit with you friend. Aloha and thank you for the quote. I am setting off to see who may have said it or whether I may attribute it to pixie. Wishing you a beautiful week! Aloha
