One of my sons

Happy 44th to my youngest son!

My choice to raise a son without a father was never regretted by me. He’s amazing, and I’m so very proud of him.  I’d been divorced 8 years and my boyfriend who I loved deeply left me and married another woman. These things happen. But the wonderful life that I got to witness as Tai grew with his playfulness and high intelligence has made me let go of my grief. He’s brought nothing but joy!

I am also terrifically grateful for the various villages of Unitarian universalist churches that helped me raise my son. My ex-husband and two older sons were also very accepting and loving towards him.

Today's quote:
There are two kinds of fools: One says, "This is old, therefore it is good"; the other
says, "This is new, therefore it is better." -William R. Inge, clergyman,
 scholar, and author (1860-1954)

    1. Thanks. I've had a lot of good support, not always where I expected it to come from. I'm quite grateful!

  3. I've never focused upon his not having a father, but he did have to explain to people he met sometimes. Of course at some times he was angry about it. He also had various older men who were his mentors, giving fatherly advice when needed.

  4. The more I know of you, the more I respect you. What a beautiful son you have raised!
I like the quote. I get so fed up with people who proclaim something's superiority because it is "ancient." "Ancient wisdom" especially crawls my skin although I know that yes, there are valid examples of this. However, the new-agey folks who toss this one around just sound silly to me. And, at the same time, just because something is lauded as "new and improved" does not mean it is. The improved part, anyway.

    1. Thank you. I love creative geniuses of all kinds, and those who provide inventions, or art forms are the ones who keep our civilization (such as it might be) moving into the future. I also have great respect for the foundations that our ancestors have provided. But neither is better than the other. We need both.

  6. Your Tai shares my late son Jon's birthday! Both wonderful men who have followed their own path in life.
Raising a child as a single mom had to be tough. One granddaughter is doing that now, with 3 children, but at least their fathers are still in the picture. It does make for horrendous custody sharing though.
Your Tai certainly reflects your love and commitment, Barb. You done good, and so has he.

    1. With blended families, visits with various parents have always been a challenge! Sorry you lost your son Jon. I've often thought how hard it would be to outlive a child.

    1. I admit that he does show a lot more respect and affection towards me than his brothers...after all I was the only parent.

    1. He's named after a I Ching (Chinese Book of Changes) hexagram...T'ai means peace.
