One advantage of driving up to my son's home in Ohio from North Carolina, was to tote three big tupperware tubs full of pottery to give to them. I have spent 12 years enjoying making it. And I did sell quite a bit as well. But this is really just a drop in the bucket of what I still have.
After the five family members looked at everything, they took turns choosing their favorites to go home with the three daughters, or stay there with parents. Of course they will all get to use the ones at home! And I suggested that they also could use them for Christmas presents.
None of them had read Louise Penny yet…but these are later editions of the series, so they may find some of the earlier books about Inspector Gamache. They all had to talk about Greta Thunberg, and I recommended the other 3. I do hope someone looks at them before they donate them to the little library down the street. I almost took back the big volume of "Eve" because I still love it. But this was such a good exercise for me of letting go...!

I drove home today...a day early so the impending snow storm wouldn't interfere with my travels - it's due to start in Lexington tonight where I stayed last night. Here in Black Mountain we'll probably have some frozen rain...so I'm happy to stay home. I had a "check engine" light come on in the car, and have an appointment on Thursday for my favorite mechanic to work on it. Whew, so glad it let the car keep on going down the road the last 300 miles! Today's weather and traffic were great!

Today’s goddess:

It was nice you took your pottery and let your family pick out their favorites. I like the sunflower vase!
ReplyDeleteTake care, enjoy your day!
These were mostly functional pieces. I have a whole lot of sculptural pieces still!
DeleteLooks like you could do some more shows if you have a lot more pottery at home. You made quite a variety of things--something for everyone. Good for you for decluttering. It's a hard thing to do.
ReplyDeleteGiving things to family is kind of different than selling them. I will know they are being used by people I love.
Delete...these are fabulous, meaningful gift to be cherished forever!
ReplyDeleteI hope someone keeps some of them!
DeleteI knew there was another reason for driving! Great idea, and it's nice that the pots went to good homes.
ReplyDeleteYep, one good reason for a trunk load of pottery!
DeleteHow wonderful to gift your pottery like that. What a treasure! I guess there is a new Penny book out. I should look into it.
ReplyDeleteI heard that some folks had pre-ordered the latest book. I may not purchase this one. I'm enjoying listening to older books by Faye Kellerman and Ann and Tony Hillerman these days. Helped with the driving definitelY!
DeleteYou are an amazingly talented potter/artist. I am sure it was indeed hard to let go of some of your treasures but they will surely be treasured.
ReplyDeleteIt's only clay...but I did have a good time making them!
DeleteOH my LORD, your pottery is exquisite- parting with it would be so challenging! Good of you to make sure they all found loving, appreciative homes but I, mast say- difficult to do. Gorgeous Pottery, such a talent! The glazes are sublime, too!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I also must remember how therapeutic making things in clay can be. Each thing is a part of a holy effort, and also each thing is complete trash...depending upon the kiln gods of course.
DeleteDownsizing is good when it goes to family members and friends. If you have any to sell post it here on your blog there may be others besides me who would be interested.
ReplyDeletePerhaps...but I'm not into shipping these days. I'll consider it though. Thanks.
DeleteNow that I'm retired from all things glass I've been thinking of going to Dallas and retrieving the last few things in the gallery there that haven't sold yet. We sold most of what we made though one of my favorite series of pieces I did, 19 of them, only one ever sold. And some others that never sold that I have here. And then there's the few pieces I never offered to sell. Not up to giving any of them away to family yet.
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely a thing to think about for quite a long time. Then when you're ready to move, just do it. Until then, cherish your beautiful works.
DeleteThat would be the most fun of the visit. You can see in their eyes how much they appreciate your pottery! It is good to let go and this was perfect! All of it will have a good home and carry memories.
ReplyDeleteI do hope these pots will carry forward the love that went into making them!
DeleteWhat a very nice thing to do! I bet you felt lighter and free-er on your way home.
ReplyDeleteNow that you mention it!
DeleteYou did it! You look fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI had such a restful enjoyable time!
DeleteWhat a gift you gave given to your family! I am sure there pieces will be treasured no matter who has them in the end. Such beautiful work, Barb.
ReplyDeleteI admire you for being able to let go of personal things, Especially beautiful things. That was very generous,
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of pottery.
