I looked up ‘peruse’ once. I found that it is one of those words that can have opposite meanings, but the ‘read carefully’ meaning is becoming dominant.
ReplyDeleteI once thought that ‘penultimate’ meant better than ‘ultimate.’ I also thought that ‘tawdry’ was synonymous with ‘tardy’. 😀
