How about a bit more beauty today?

Springtime light just before sunset catches the tops of the trees, taken in Asheville NC May 5.
For Skywatch Friday - the pool in Black Mountain has sat with water and all kinds of debris since last summer. Here it was last week as they cleaned it out in preparation for opening, probably for Memorial Day weekend.

Ready for refill a few days later!
A few weeks earlier this year a couple of Mallards liked the water in the pool, while the nearby lake was drained. The poles and tarps in the background are remains from the tents and a shower following the storm last fall.
People actually came with buckets to get water from the pool when Hurricane Helene meant they couldn't even flush their toilets...and the water was only good for that. Then the town set up a free shower on the pavement next to the pool changing building. It was just cold water somehow (clean I hope) inside a round shower curtained stall, outdoors. And in front of the building there was free drinking water in bottles, and some hot meals brought in from someplace that had gas stoves, as well as stable supplies like paper products and diapers. I had evacuated on the 4th day to my cousin's home during that time, so I wasn't there to see things personally.
The Black Mountain Golf Course is still closed but gives a great view of the Black Mountains over which the Blue Ridge Parkway runs.
And just 6 days ago we felt an earthquake here in Black Mountain, centered in east TN, a 4.1 magnitude. I was lying in bed, and the noise of something shaking on a shelf, and myself kind of shaking in relation to the bed was all I felt. Many didn't feel it at all.

It's rhododendron season in Black Mountain. Sharing with Floral Friday Fotos!
Just read a wonderful human nature story...about human nature, not nature. I recommend this article on "The Beauty we Love." It's by Naomi Shihab Nye
Today's quote:
A vase with four elements, water, air, earth and fire, depicted on it's four sides.
...Barbara, enjoy your spring.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tom, and I hope you have fun with your spring flowers and take lots of photos!
DeleteNewsy and ending with nice pics.
ReplyDeleteThanks, and a wish that you and Sue have a great weekend.
DeleteI am reading your accounts with such interest. I was anxious about you and your neighbors during and after that storm. Such a struggle to manage with drinking water out.
ReplyDeleteWe were pretty lucky, not to have had a mud slide or flood taking away our homes, which many people and businesses suffered through. I'm continuing to be have gratitude for safe survival. Many friends seem to be dealing with PTSD from the storm...and I understand because when we have thunder and heavy rain I am on edge still.
DeleteCute photo of the duck in the pool. Pretty sky captures! The spring blossoms are beautiful, I love the rhododendrons. Take care, have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Eileen. I have more birds for sharing with Saturday's Critters tomorrow! I hope the recent floods in Maryland weren't anywhere near you or your friends.
DeleteThe pool as community center, setting up the outdoor shower. The rhodies are gorgeous. We don't have them down here, too hot.
ReplyDeleteSpring has become a favorite season here, as it has such abundance and variety.
DeleteI was just talking with my BEST friend in the whole world who lives in Asheville area. You are a survivor. You are loved here by your friends and relatives plus all your ancestors. I am a recent widow and needed to read that quote by Linda Hogan. I am asking your permission to share Hogan's quote with my friend.
ReplyDeleteSure, bloggers don't mind sharing, and I appreciate your asking. Oh I take that back, some people say they copywrite their blogs. I don't, because many of my photos are from the internet.
DeleteGreat post.
ReplyDeleteThank you and I am glad you visited today!
DeleteYou rarely get earthquakes in your area, correct? That must have been a real shocker. Beautiful skies in all your photos!
ReplyDeleteThe ducks look like they're supervising the refilling of the pool making sure its done right. :)
ReplyDeleteSpring is a great time of year, such optimism.
ReplyDeleteYour area of the country really got pounded with bad weather I hope everyone is able to get back on their feet.
Such a beautiful time!
ReplyDeleteI always appreciate maps, as I'm not very good with US states!
ReplyDeleteThis is interesting seeing the pool clean up. The ducks were eager, too!
Your header is terrific. Yay spring!
When the pool was completely full the next day, ducks enjoyed swimming in it...and one of them left some poop in the water. Well, I don't know the correct name for it, but I never knew they did it while swimming!
DeleteBeautiful shots.
