The national flower of Ukraine
My friend Teresa and I drove down the interstate to the nearby town of Hendersonville NC.
We knew of one shop in downtown H. that we wanted to visit (her daughter-in-law works there/owns it?) And someone gave us the directions to a good sandwich shop.
Main Street Hendersonville has two things we noticed right away. Each cross street has a stop light...about a dozen of them though I didn't count. And each cross street has 4 bears on the corners...delightfully painted.

I did enjoy these two bears.
Several shops weren't open yet at 10:30, and we didn't bother going back to them as there were blocks and blocks of shops!
We would have enjoyed visiting the florist, but she was out having breakfast I guess.
Early morning was coolish and comfortable, though the sun was bright on the other side of the street.
While my grandchildren are all adults now, Teresa had to check out O.P. Taylors for some toys for her granddaughter (this one is for Christmas!)
OK, that's quite enough for today. I'll sneak some more in tomorrow!
I went to lunch yesterday in Black Mountain with another couple of friends, and had a delicious thick hamburger. No photos for that, nor the fried onion rings. I did bring home half my burger and salad. The rings don't reheat that well, so we left some on the table. I know, sacrilege! There's still a coldness with one of my friends, and I just didn't try to talk it out. It left me feeling I'd been with someone who was freezing me out.
Geese, this is no fun! I gave both of these ladies the belated birthday cards and gift cards which I'd had for them the day everything went to 'h---' in a handbasket. Rather belated gifts, and no way they could prove I'd had them for them that day, since neither of them came to lunch. But I'm not as emotional now that I'm over that drug that made me so tearful, so if a friend can't even say thank you for a gift, I guess I won't be seeing much of her for a while. It feels like having a teenager around.
I shared with them my dream of moving to Colorado. Who knows if I'll ever be physically able to do that.

These are not all made by myself, but I was bound and determined to give them away to the folks at the class I've been taking at church in Asheville. I succeeded!

ReplyDeleteWe didn't have our other "trip friend" so we postponed looking in the bookstore...since that's a favorite place to linger for all of us. We'll be back!

DeleteHendersonville sounds interesting, but I find these days that too many shops just wear me out. I am really not much of a shopper. But I like those bears, and the street scenes. It looks a very inviting place.
ReplyDeleteAbout that "friend": it sounds like it's time to let her go. You don't need that kind of nastiness in your life. The problem is hers, not yours. As we get older, we just don't have time for such nonsense.
I am in total agreement about my friend with her own problems. It's time to let go. Since I only shop on day trips like this, maybe once a month, it's easy enough to purchase one good item (usually earrings for myself) and maybe one gift for someone else.

I don't plan to get together with my friend again...at least for quite a while. I gave her her birthday gift, so that's no longer hanging over me. Now to let go.
DeleteI love the bears! That sounds like a great place to explore. About the friend: some people just don't grow up. She'll either get over it or she won't. Not your problem, vas I'm sure you've concluded.
ReplyDeleteThis friend is bi-polar, and kind of stays in the depressed end of it. I guess I had compassion for her, but now I am letting her go.

What a delightful place to visit, Barbara, complete with colorful bears. I totally agree with you that reheated onion rings are not worth it, which is why I probably would not have left any behind. You should not have to spend so much effort on friendship, it's either there or not and you certainly have tried. As others have already commented, it may be time to let things to for your own well being and peace of mind. I hope you do get to move to CO 😀
