Happy birthday to me. So here I am, now 83...starting my 84th trip around the sun. And I don't expect lots of wishes, which of course are welcome, but not necessary at all. I do expect to continue to share and converse sometimes with other bloggers. I never know what you all are going to post each day!
My joy for 12 years after retirement...playing in clay!
Here are some memories of my 80th weekend celebration:
Russ is behind the camera. Going around the table starting with G-D Caroline looking over her shoulder, to left is G-D Audrey, her sis, D-in-L Kendra, Son Tai, G-S Michael (Marty's son), me, Son Marty, G-S William, and G-D Cayenne (William's sis.)
Celebrating my 80th in 2022 with lots of family members at a luxury cabin in the woods, gifted by my three sons. (Left to r: Will, Cayenne, Audrey behind, Russ, Caroline behind, myself in hat, Tai behind, Marty and Michael. Kendra is behind the camera.

Yes, it did qualify as a beach. and even then the water never got above 4 feet deep.
Sons Tai and Russ and grandson William seated.
My three sons (not often I get a shot of all of them together) Tai, Russ and Marty.
Sepia Saturday suggests a nuclear family is all dressed up to go somewhere.
Our SS host, Alan Burnett says:
There was a period at the beginning of the twentieth century when family photography moved out of the confines of the studio and into the open air. This was the age of amateur photography: cameras and film had developed to such an extent that ordinary people - enthusiasts, at least, could afford to buy cameras and start taking photographs. Cameras and films had not progressed far enough, however, to enable such photographs to be taken without a plentiful supply of natural light - and so garden photographs suddenly became popular. This week on Sepia Saturday you can share your photographs taken in the garden, of the garden, outside the garden .... or nowhere near the garden. Simply share an old photograph on or around Saturday 23 August 2025 and add a link to the list below. And then you can pop out into the garden and see what is coming in the next few weeks on Sepia Saturday.
The Theosophic doctrine that the physical world is an externalization of an astral plane or even the higher Platonic doctrine that it crystallizes a world of divine ideation is given to beginners as a help to give them a crude grasp, a first step towards the theory that the world is an idea, until they are mentally developed.
When their mind is mature they are then told to discard the astral plane theory and told the pure truth that all existence is idea.

ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Barb. Are we energizer bunnies? Celebrate your day!πππ¦π
ReplyDeleteOh I do like the idea of a little bunny drumming along, she's pink isn't she?
DeleteA wonderful day to celebrate you! HAPPY 83rd!
ReplyDeleteThanks, and the weather is certainly celebrating today, a high of 71!!
DeleteHappy birthday, dear Barbara! You are living a life well lived.
ReplyDeleteTHank you so much. I'm working on it...though much of it is pretty lazy life.
DeleteHappy birthday! Celebrate you. Stay well.
ReplyDeleteThe early days of home photography needing outdoor light accounts for all the family pictures of kids holding pets and squinting!
2nd try...blogger didn't like my first comment reply...something about in the 40s and 50s we didn't use flash yet, so interior shots had a special bright light set up. Thanks. Staying well is the top wish these days!
DeleteHappy Birthday! I like that top (or blanket) in the last photo. I think I remember that cabin vacation, which means we’ve been doing this for awhile.
ReplyDeleteYes, the cabin vacation was just 3 years ago. We go back much further than that! Thanks for the wishes.
DeleteHappy happy birthday to you! Sending you best wishes for a truly wonderful day. I know I don't comment much anymore, but I always stop by to see how you are! (NewRobin13)
ReplyDeleteWell, since I remember getting to know you pretty well in our past blog-ventures, I'll allow you to lurk a bit still, Robin!
DeleteHappy birthday! 83 years deserves recognition.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty surprised, and I guess proud of having arrived here.

ReplyDeleteThanks doubly, since you also sent FB wishes!
DeleteHappy Birthday! I have an August birthday too (the 12th) I turned 69 which sounds quite old. Those are great photos of the 80th family get together. I love being near the water.
ReplyDeleteI named this blog "When I was 69" and Aug 12 is also my daughter-in-law's birthday! It's a good day, a good year.
DeleteHappy birthday! Looks like a good celebration for your 80th. I'll be 70 next week, not having any big celebration but kind of spreading it out over the whole month... ;)
ReplyDeleteI think spread out birthday celebrations are just ducky!
DeleteHappy Birthday to you! Wonderful memories and family photos.
ReplyDeleteTake care, have a great weekend.
Thanks. I'm going to eventually get some critters shared (tomorrow!)
DeleteFirst of all, Happy Birthday Anniversary! Glad you're no longer having dizzy spells. Those are no fun! I'm assuming the opening photo is you in silhouette in the early sixties? Beautiful. And the log cabin rented for your 80th birthday looks wonderful. That beach is huge. Was the lake low that year? These are all great pictures of family and adventure in the great outdoors. And I really like the 'thought' you ended with. I have always believed our universe is based on an idea with purpose. Perhaps one 'day' I'll find out what that purpose is? Right now, however, I'm content to continue my existence as is for the moment. I'm just two and a half years ahead of you and hope I have a few left, yet. :)
ReplyDeleteLead on Gail (I don't have that many friends who are senior to me)! Yes the lake was pretty shallow there where the beach was, though not low that year. Then last year the whole thing was inundated with debris, which has slowly been pulled out. They kind of drained it to be able to get things off the bottom, and now it's again open. Hope they dredged the deeper swimming area. Glad to know about your thoughts on our existence.
ReplyDeleteA very happy birthday on your special day. Great look back at the family memories and the good times. Every day is a good day if we still are here so enjoy making more memories. Onward you go!
