Update about blogCa

Who knew all this would happen afterwards! Flat Creek in November, 2024. Much changed by the force of the hurricane floods in Sept. 2024. The deck of the bridge is now under that pile of debris.

Veins and Arteries

Arteries push the blood out of the heart all over the body, and veins bring it back to be returned to the heart.

Having some issues with my foot, so was referred to a vascular specialist.

At 7:45 am!

All the way in Asheville. But it was closer than going to another Dr. in Hendersonville, which is 45 minutes away rather than 15-20 to Asheville.

So I dragged my coffee with me, and went through a test of my blood pressures in ankles and arms...comparing them.

And found out I now have yet another chronic condition...as shown in the poster from my exam room. But my results are just at a moderate level still. So it won't mean much change in my lifestyle, besides wearing compression hose sometimes. And the specialist didn't ever answer my concerns about my foot turning purple sometimes...she said we'd need to wait till all my bruises heal from when I toppled over from kneeling to lying on my back. So now I'm waiting to get my bruises to go away. With my blood thinners, it takes quite a while, since I turn purple every time I bump anything.

I hope that increasing my walking will also help. She said it was a good idea. At least blood pressure doesn't cause pain. Thank goodness for that.

And I go back in a year.

Today's quote:

In its original literal sense, "moral relativism" is simply moral complexity. That is, anyone who agrees that stealing a loaf of bread to feed one's children is not the moral equivalent of, say, shoplifting a dress for the fun of it, is a relativist of sorts. But in recent years, conservatives bent on reinstating an essentially religious vocabulary of absolute good and evil as the only legitimate framework for discussing social values have redefined "relative" as "arbitrary". -Ellen Jane Willis, writer (14 Dec 1941-2006)

    1. Ha, that's the way of all our bits and pieces, isn't it! But actually this bod seems to be working extremely well, and I'm very grateful for it.

    1. I think a lot of it is from the blood-thinners. Maybe can get off of some of them soon.

    1. One med does seem to help my blood pressure pretty well...but the tissues are still swelling anyway. Gotta get the muscles in legs to work again...more anyway.

  5. Staying on top of your health and knowing what ails you is a good thing. You take necessary steps literally. and figuratively to stay ahead of poor health. Take care.

    1. Yes, I never thought I'd be sharing all these medical issues at this age...but it is what it is. I'm grateful to be able to get around independently still, and hope to have many more years of this.

  6. I take blood thinners too. My feet turn purple in the morning as I have a hard time putting the compression socks on. Walking does do my circulation good so I try always to walk a bit every day. At least I am not in pain and I am thankful for that. Enjoy your day!

    1. Second try to reply...hello blogger. Wake up! Yep, side effects of things that supposedly keep us alive longer, do give more problems. I bought men's compression socks, as a nurse advised me. The feet are a bit long, but they fit fine!

    1. I'm so glad my friend Cathy encourages me to walk with her. So far, wonderful weather and feeling really tired by the end of our half mile. I'm trying to also walk in my neighborhood, but perched on the side of a steep hill means at least one way is a big climb. Which is good for me of course!

  8. Sometimes I hurt myself in a way that I expect a big bruise, but nothing happens. Other times I find a bruise on me and wonder how that happened.

  9. I hate early appointments. They leave me useless for the rest of the day.

    Be well and be safe.
