Earthship homes

Earthship homes - right for you?

Treehugger online newsletter has interesting architectural innovations frequently. I have visited the Earthship home site near Taos New Mexico, had a tour, even bought the tee-shirt!

We stayed 2 nights in a B&B built like an earthship. Very comfortable. See this post from 2019 where I gave lots of photos from our tour!

My youngest son and his wife were thinking of getting land in Colorado and building their own home. But bank loans probably pushed them into a conventional house that they are upgrading most of their free time. And Kendra has a wonderful garden from which they eat all summer long.

It's a good idea to use earth as part of walls...filled old tires are within walls that are covered with mud/plaster. Often roofs are also green, but it seems more important to catch rainfall in the southwest.

Today's quote:

The love of one’s country is a splendid thing. But why should love stop at the border?
