Animals from old photos

Mostly mules and a donkey...unknown place with covered wagons about to set out for some great opportunities.

"Down in Breckenridge, Texas, Where Horses Ride in Fords."

How families traveled, and must wonder what's in the kegs!

Not particularly welcoming group of riders on bridge.

A trolly pulled by mule power, I hink.

An orange stand (I think) next to a rather dilapidated old house. Another horse drawn wagon.

Traveling circuses always depended upon elephant power to raise tents, and have a big parade!

A small carriage pulled by a horse.

This photo of the same building from Google Earth...I'm guessing in Florida or south Texas, perhaps Galveston.

I started out with a wagon train, so let's finish as this one winds its way along the side of a mountain. It looks like oxen are pulling multiple wagons.

Sharing with Saturday's Critters.

Today's quote:

Don’t plan it all. Let life surprise you a little.

Back at the gardens

On the Community Garden side of the horse's pasture.

A very productive looking garden patch.

Another garden with many little seedlings planted.

After several inches of rain last night, it was good to see the water had gone down on the Swannanoa here...when I drove along the same river down in Asheville later that day, it was still rushing higher than normal. I guess we are close enough to the dam in Montreat, our water comes more slowly.

I'm thinking of mustard.

It's so nice to see well organized beds.

Can you see horse number two?

More of gardens in sunshine

Not a very clear photo, but this is a bag of seed potatoes I donated to the garden. Basically organic potatoes, the smaller ones which started growing in the cupboard!

Growing here since 1850...which  is when people were probably just coming into this valley.
The barn. Here a path goes either to the left at the eastern lower side of the garden, or straight and up the hill on the end of the garden, or left along the river.

OK, it really doesn't look like a Forsythia...

Sort of goodbye shots to the horses. I didn't talk to them, because there are signs saying not to disturb them.

Mansard roof and horses of a different color

A vet in Granby, CT has a horse of a different color outside.

But wait, this is horse country apparently.
And these wonderfully posed statues all are colorful.

I was struck by the mansard roof of this house, now a nursery school.
