Quick shots out the window of pileated woodpecker. His huge blaze caught my eye but then he kept hiding from me.
Breakfasting squirrel keeping warm while it was 44 degrees last Mon. morning (and due to be colder Tues). we had frost warnings again. But yesterday (Fri.) it got to 80 F.
Sharing with Saturday's Critters

And for Skywatch Friday...let's look a bit closer at Lake Tomahawk.
Somebody was honking up a storm. These were tiny little goslings to have been way out in the lake.
It may have been this lone goose, or maybe the family's protective ones. I imagined that the lone goose might have been their son or daughter from last year, and wanting their parent's attention. Or something else only geese know about...

Little hummers are like miracles of nature!
ReplyDeleteAnd they have long been inspirational critters too!
Delete...the geese are busy raising their young on Lake Tomahawk, NICE!
ReplyDeleteThey are in more danger at night...thanks to racoons and bears and coyotes.
DeleteEven the Canada Goose is cute when young.
ReplyDeleteThere is some truth to any little youngsters being cute, just so their parents will stick around till they are teens then boot them out!
DeleteMy hummingbird feeder is so busy right now. The little guys dip and sip all day long.
ReplyDeleteI just heard what I know must have been a pileated woodpecker a few minutes ago but I couldn't see it. I did see one the other day but I could not get a picture through the screen.
There is something so brave and funny and sweet about baby ducklings, practicing their paddling under Mama's eye.
I wish I could commit to keeping up a hummingbird feeder, but right now I'm focused on my own feeding needs. The feeder sits inside waiting for better health so I can be consistent for the tiny little guys. I don't want to let the nectar stuff grow bacteria, like happens inside my lungs!
DeleteSorry. Goslings. Whatever.
ReplyDeleteQuack. Honk! Peep!
DeleteLove the naked hanging men flower.
ReplyDeleteAren't they a hoot? I think I've even seen them in person in a hot house once.
DeleteBeautiful photos ~ favorites are the sweet hummingbird ~ Hugs ^_^
ReplyDeleteBe well ~ and more Hugs to heal you ~ ^_^
Thanks for stopping by. I went to your blog and saw more goslings!
DeleteHello barb,
ReplyDeleteI love all the photos, the birds are beautiful. Hummingbirds and the Pileated Woodpeckers are favorites.
The goose family is cute. Great skywatch photos. I hope the Monarchs arrive soon. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a great weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
I've seen one monarch flying by so far. I should perch somewhere near milkweed to see if I can get some photos of them!
DeleteI find hummingbirds fascinating as we don't have them here :) Butterflies are amazing creatures as well, alas we've had a lot less of those around in later years than we used to, which is rather worrying.
ReplyDeleteWe've had a bit of increase in Monarchs, but they sure did decrease for years before that.
DeleteNo hummers or monarchs here yet. We do have an abundance of swallowtails.
ReplyDeleteThey are also beautiful!
DeleteHummingbirds are a rare and exciting sight here.I usually spot them around four in the afternoon, but the sighting is so brief you have to be already looking the right way to catch thrm!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful series of photos.
ReplyDeleteHummingbirds do not occur here, perhaps you can see them in a zoo.
I find the Canada goose with their goslings very beautiful.
I wish you a lovely Sunday.
All the best, Irma
Love the picture of the Hummingbird. Such amazing little birds.
ReplyDeleteLovely hummingbird, we are still waiting for our first one to arrive.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos. I have a devil of a time getting good photos of birds and other critters in thick brush.
ReplyDeleteI love your photos of the lake.
I really enjoyed scrolling down and seeing hummingbirds, woody wood peckers, geese, butterflies. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! Orchids have zero chill.
