 A mix of early spring flowers to share today...(though this is now getting close to late spring)

Red trillium

And I enjoyed waiting for someone to work on a new key for my car by taking photos of some of the plants for sale at the hardware store the other day.


I think the guy told me this was a fire spike, but would love someone to give me a correct name.

    Lovely photos, quite a celebration of the season. That's a red hot pojer, i think. I don't know the scientific name.

      True too! I noticed you commented on another blog that there was an "ice cream Dairy Queen" near you, and we have a "renamed local one" here, the Blue Cone is it's name, but the sign which faded once to blue has now gone pretty white. Soft serve ice cream is always a summer treat.

    That green spike looks like a young kniphofia. Aka red hot poker. We used to have trout lilies in one spot near here but severe flooding one year seems to have done for them. I couldn't believe they were wildflowers the first time I saw them.

      My plant identification gave that name as well, but didn't include red hot poker. I like to be able to mentally pronounce words, and kniphofia stumps me...why a ph as well as fia? My poor mental tongue is completely twisted up.

    I knew that plant wasn't what I call a fire spike and yes, as the others are saying- red hot poker. Eek!
    My trillium has almost faded but it surely does look beautiful for a very long time every year.

    The Petunias!!!!!! My gramma always had a planter of purple petunias in a huge elevated planter by her back door.

    Red, hot poker! I cheated and used Google lens because I thought it was aloe. Vera. But I didn't see the leaves characteristic of the aloe. Always a pleasure to be with you Barbara

    Oh, Spring has gone wild with blooms and butterflies! My favorite time of year! Also this: Kniphofia is a genus of perennial flowering plants in the family Asphodelaceae, first described as a genus in 1794. All species of Kniphofia are native to Africa. Common names include tritoma, red hot poker, torch lily and poker plant. Wikipedia
