Update about blogCa

View from my tiny balcony, April 11, 2026. The steep slope my apartment building sits on reminds me that this is an ancient river valley, and perhaps where I sit once was the bank of a bigger Swannanoa River than the one of today.

Garden Bloggers Bloom Day

Sharing with Garden Bloggers Bloom Day - on the 15th of the month.

Outside my front door, a kind of spastic azalea. Or perhaps split personality? A dark butterfly is on the lower right blossom.

The bewildering array of oxygen tanks with a gauge saying the connected one is empty (in the red). Someone turned it all the way "on" while I was gone...or perhaps the EMTs as they left to take me to hospital Friday the 3rd. Now I need to figure out how to switch the gauge setup to another tank so I can try carrying it around, if I so choose. So far I haven't felt much difference with oxygen "as needed." Mainly it's a pain in the "feet don't trip over the tubing" all over the place inside the house. I have two other methods of  getting O2 in portable ways.

Our native Flame Azalea, pruned and placed in a parking lot.

  1. I've had friends use backpack oxygen outside and the trailing tubes indoors, definitely a tripping hazard to watch out for. It's complex!

    1. So far I've not decided that it does much good. Breathing is still difficult, brain is still foggy. But I'll follow doctor's orders for now. Sometimes you have to give the pros a chance.

    2. I use my pulse-oximeter frequently and with or without oxygen it doesn't seem to have any difference, as well as I still get out of breath just walking 50 feet, let alone up steps!

    1. Thanks for dropping by. Someone posted a photo of their azaleas and bemoaned that they bloom just for a week. But what a week it is!

    1. I will gladly take wishes, hopes, prayers, and intentions for my good health. I greatly appreciate all of your efforts. The universe of all possibilities does have energy fields which respond to positive wishes, I'm pretty sure.

    1. Would be if I really needed it. So far it seems I do just as well without the hoses as with them.

  5. Oh, that gardenia! I planted one years ago and although it has grown, I have never once gotten a bloom. Perhaps this will be the year!
Yeah. Looks like that O2 set-up is more of a tripping hazard than anything else.

    1. Someone probably invented a retractable device like people use for dog leashes. It probably weighs a bunch though, and the little battery operated pump weighs 5 pounds by itself. The tanks (pretty small at 16 inches tall) are just 2 pounds. But I haven't figured out how to turn the device onto the tank yet. I grew a potted gardenia for years...inside each winter, out each summer. A friend had one in St. Petersburg FL, but I guess you get too much cold in the winter for a happy gardenia there.

  7. Call the company that supplied the oxygen and explain the problem setting up a new tank. They will guide you through it...if they can't, ask them to send someone to demonstrate. I'm surprised they didn't leave written instructions...although I know you can look up info on line.

    1. When I picked it up in person they showed me how. That was three weeks ago now…only did it once. A good challenge to get my brain working!

  8. I love that flame azalea. I've given up on gardenias. They do not thrive in my yard and then die.

  9. A beautiful share, Barb! I hate that the oxygen is such a hassle. I hope that you begin to feel its good effects...or can find that it not needed.
    That last quote, that's beautiful.

    1. So far my discomfort is muddle headed and sort of minor dizzy, or perhaps light headed. I walk wound hanging onto things with fear of falling, but so far just a world that doesn’t seem secure. It is no better or worse with oxygen!

    2. Your tank and hose setup looks confusing. If they included a diagram you could refer too, it might help. Lovely flowers, they are pretty.
