Swimsuits

 The swim suits!

What a fun way to walk on water!

Serious swimmers, a team of high school students at a meet. My granddaughter is in the black facing us on the right, from about 5 years ago.

A few years ago my family went from OH to FL for Christmas, where they found more freezing weather. Here one granddaughter smiles, while her sister in background wears pajama bottoms I think to keep warm, and dad, Russ, looks on by the Gulf of Mexico.

Finally getting to the sepia photos. Here my husband in the 60s rigs our little boat, while Russ (whose birthday is tomorrow) wears a orange lifejacket, and I'm in my favorite yellow (no polkadots) two piece suit.  An unknown little girl photo bombed the shot in the foreground. It's possible that my oldest son is floating around in the direction I'm looking, maybe wearing a white floatation thing. The water was really shallow!

Yep, someone captured me in my yellow swim suit floating around.  No my hair isn't that yellow stuff, but it's a little swim cap with fake hair! I'm not posting my latest swim suit where I definitely resembled an Easter egg.

Sharing with Sepia Saturday!

Alan Burnett invites others to join our free fun site...

It's the middle of summer (well, it is in the Northern Hemisphere) and here on Sepia Saturday we are paddling in the seas of nostalgia. To protect our bodies from the sun we are hiding in the shade of countless memories, represented by a host of old photographs. Join us by sharing an old photograph or two either on themes (bathing suits, beaches, sand) or off theme (giant vegetables, top hats, or whatever you want) on or around Saturday 16th August 2025 and add a link to the list (on the site).

And a very happy birthday wish to my second son, Russ. I celebrate virtually your life which has enriched so many!

Camping in St. Mary's GA with Tai (on left) and Russ when he was in college. We went to Cumberland Island GA for the next day.

    1. I sure do like floating around in water...no matter what the style. The decreased body weight is always fun!

    1. It was ok to wear things that looked good...back when the body was in the better shape than it is today. Moving around was the important thing.

  6. Happy birthday to Russ! And I had to scroll quickly past those water pictures! Not my element, to put it mildly. But clearly yours.

    1. Thanks...I am surprised to hear you don't like the water element. I guess I didn't as a teen when I had to wear a tank top and learn to swim in winter-time St. Louis (indoor pool) when we'd have to go to our next classes with wet hair. But I'm glad I finally did learn to enjoy water.

  8. Artful shot of you in yellow tiny suit relaxing in such clear water. I absolutely LOVE that photo. I remember swim caps with personality- so that we didn't look bald. Mine had fake rubber feathers and a big fake rubber flower. Fahionistas! You were quite the elegant dish, I must say!!

    1. Oh yes, in our efforts to keep our own hair from being ruined by the chlorine, or sea, or lake waters...there were those fun caps! I never had the flower ones, but did think they were cute.

  9. We used to have a little fiberglass sailboat like that we kept on a small lake. Wonderful memories that I had forgotten until I read your post!

    1. Those tiny little boats could really zip along, or you could just get out and push if the wind died down.

    1. I think if I could just float around like that for quite a while, life would be grand.

  13. I rarely go swimming these days and when I do it's in the Gulf of Mexico so I hardly ever wear a swimsuit. When I do it's a tank top with swim shorts. Two piece and bikini are far in the past for me. My mother in law went to Brazil and brought me back a Brazilian bathing suit which consisted of three postage stamp sized triangles of material and string. I never even tried it on.

    1. Oh my goodness that Brazilian suit sounds really wild. And when you said you hardly ever wear a swimsuit, I was thinking you must be in a very private place to be able to skinny dip. Ha ha. I like the tank top and swim shorts too...my next swimwear probably.

  15. Wonderful photos to fit this Sepia Saturday theme. The third photo fooled me at first glance as I thought it might be somewhere in Alaska or Canada. Your last floating swimsuit photo also got me as you looked like an advertisement for sunscreen or vacation flights to Miami :—}

  16. A fun section of photos to match the prompt. That photo of you floating - so relaxed - got me thinking I should go down to the clubhouse pool & do the same this afternoon! I love floating - in calm water. When up at Tahoe I had to pick my times to float as floating isn't quite as much fun if the water is really wavy.

    1. Yes, lakes and rivers, and certainly oceans, make floating more difficult. But ah, the salt water does do extra floatation, which I do miss.

  18. Lovely happy sunny memories (apart from the surprising Florida photo) and I had to smile,at your description of looking like an Easter Egg - I reckon I could keep you company there. Here in Scotland we are experiencing our 4th heat wave of the summer - a rare occurance , but it is a long long time since I ever wore a swim suit out of doors.
