Dry Falls

From former blog (where do old blogs go? some disappear apparently!) "Living in Black Mountain NC."

From under "Dry Falls" near Highlands, NC.

It's a myth, you can't really stay dry under these falls, at least when they are really working.

Today's quote:

Buckminster Fuller used to say that "changing human nature is hard, and when you try, you mostly fail, and it's discouraging. Changing tools and technology is relatively easy."

Old photo:

My mother and father at Epcot, Disney World, FL with my nephew Zachery, about 1982-3. I'm so glad my niece, Lisa, is happily living in Italy now. She and I (and our  families) are the only living people from my nuclear family. It's so strange to see these people who were captured in a moment in time.

  1. Are you up at 3:00 AM or did you set this to post at this time?
I grew up with two brothers and a sister. It still feels odd to be the last of the siblings. I do enjoy seeing all the younger generations nephews, nieces, great, and yes great-greats grow up in this strange place the world has become..

    1. You guessed right, I just pre-date the time to publish the post. It is interesting to have the internet to sometimes glimpse into the lives of the younger generations.

  2. That’s short for you. I hope all is well on this Sunday morning. It’s cooler here today, and it is even raining. Yay!

    1. Thanks for your concern...yes, I'm just not too talkative right now. Still recovering from dental surgery last week. So have been a bit of a hermit in my usual doings.

    2. Which of course is strange, because my adding photos and comments doesn't require a thing of my mouth!!

  3. I'm the last of my immediate family other than my son. There are nephews and nieces I never met in faraway places. It's odd to be the last of my sibs.

    1. Getting old is joked about, and of course many Facebook quotes are about how wonderful it is. But as a 90+ friend once said, she was making many younger friends now, because she'd lost all those she'd had from years past. So I guess I'm needing to go make more friends, the way I'm feeling today anyway.

    2. All my agemates are gone, and my current friend group is 50-70 years old. Kids! But you can't count on people not to go and die at any age. I've outlived a couple of young friends who planned to take care of me in my old age. Heigh ho.

    3. It’s really uncomfortable for me making new friends. I’d rather go on a diet! That was sarcasm.

  4. ...we have many dry falls here. There are many streams that have dried up, and leaves are falling from the tree because of the dryness.

    1. Hope the coming week is good to you also. We may have more rain coming (maybe because of Erin flinging it around from the Atlantic, who knows?)

  6. That is quite a photo. What captions you could make for it!

  7. I despair of changing human nature in the case of the MAGA cult..
