View from my tiny balcony, April 11, 2026. The steep slope my apartment building sits on reminds me that this is an ancient river valley, and perhaps where I sit once was the bank of a bigger Swannanoa River than the one of today.

Credit Union's Sunflower Giants
Right on State Street, or US 70, there is a virtual forest of sunflowers...across from the Monte Vista Hotel and Mellie Macks nursery.
Thanks Tom - these really caught my eye, and I was glad to be able to pull into the parking lot to take these photos. No sun here today, but we needed cooler weather and a little rain. Robin - I've grown many a sunflower, but never quite this high!
...the last few year sunflowers seem to be popping up everywhere. You certainly found some towering ones, I hope that you have a sunny day.
