Before and after-------------
The Georgia Trust for Historic preservation site on FB gives this:
We love a great before and after! The Merritt-Long House in Macon was built around 1894, and the house was slated for demolition in the early 2000s. The Historic Macon Foundation (HMF) stepped in and rehabilitated this Beall's Hill property! Having been vacant for decades, the house and its considerable size made the project the largest by HMF to date. The rehabilitation work included the front porch, which was designed based on the original footprint evidenced on a historic Sanborn map, opening up the hallway which had been divided into separate rooms and maintaining the historic wood flooring whenever possible. This property won a 2017 Georgia Trust Excellence in Rehabilitation Award.

Today's quote:

I like the befores and afters. When you stop to think about it, the befores were also afters..:)
ReplyDeleteI hope they can help your headaches.
There were so many years under those roofs...with the echoes of footsteps, arguments, laughter, and tears...which have all disappeared.
Delete...The Merritt-Long House in Macon is my favorite. I love the bay window. Thanks Barbara for sharing this wonderful post.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, and thanks for hosting the Tuesday's Treasures meme!
DeleteI always enjoy seeing 'before-and-afters'.houses, kilns, vehicles, endless possibilities.
ReplyDeleteSending hope and crossed toes that the migraines get sorted. Those who have never had one have no idea of what they are talking about when they offer advice!
Thanks. I don't have pain with my migraines, just auras...a flashing light that blinds my eyes for a time. I'm very sensitive to bright sunshine these days. I do feel for those who have painful migraines.
DeleteI get those migraines, usually from too much screen time! I hope you find a similar simple remedy.
ReplyDeleteI also get them when I first wake up, so no screen triggers. Stress can also bring them out. I do hope for some solutions.
DeleteThe before and after of the (Not McClure) house and Georgia are proof that some people will take on anything! Gorgeous. I have friends who owned a house in St. Augustine that looked a lot like the first house pictured although it was larger, I think. They spent years redoing that house. It was lovely but a relief for them when they finally sold it, I think.
ReplyDeleteMay you get answers about your migraines.
I wish some of the old homes I've seen were renovated. It takes a special kind of knowledge as well as investment of time, materials and dollars to bring an old home back to life. Kudos to those who do that work!
DeleteInteresting Salinger quote. His widow stopped by this week to bring us a rum cake to thank Dan for putting on the lights every evening on the tree on the green. She is quite active in our community and was the one that gifted the old store for our new library/community center.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting coincidence...my quote about J.D. Salinger, and then his widow being active in your community, as well as giving you all a rum cake! I had no idea!
DeleteHello, Barb
ReplyDeleteGreat photos showing the before and after house renovations.
I went through a time getting too many migraines, they are awful.
I hope the doctor can help you get rid of your migraines.
I wish you all the best in 2026, a happy and healthy New Year. Take care, have a great day!
THanks. Referrals are set up. I liked meeting a new doc in this new practice. I wish you all a happy healthy 2026 also.
DeleteI am in awe of those renovations.
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful to see the completed work, and know that these dwellings can again be homes for families.
DeleteOh, that Georgia house is wonderful!
