More houses named after the McClures...

It is located on .69 acres in Clear Brook, Virginia. The house definitely needs work. The house features double porches, heart pine floors and some plaster walls. There is an old smokehouse on the property. Work was started on the home. Two bedrooms, one bathroom and 1,128 square feet

Before and after

The Georgia Trust for Historic preservation site on FB gives this:

We love a great before and after! The Merritt-Long House in Macon was built around 1894, and the house was slated for demolition in the early 2000s. The Historic Macon Foundation (HMF) stepped in and rehabilitated this Beall's Hill property! Having been vacant for decades, the house and its considerable size made the project the largest by HMF to date. The rehabilitation work included the front porch, which was designed based on the original footprint evidenced on a historic Sanborn map, opening up the hallway which had been divided into separate rooms and maintaining the historic wood flooring whenever possible. This property won a 2017 Georgia Trust Excellence in Rehabilitation Award.

I’m off to the doctor this morning to hopefully get answers to my frequent migraines that have been almost daily for the last month.

  1. I like the befores and afters. When you stop to think about it, the befores were also afters..:)

I hope they can help your headaches.

    1. There were so many years under those roofs...with the echoes of footsteps, arguments, laughter, and tears...which have all disappeared.

  3. I always enjoy seeing 'before-and-afters'.houses, kilns, vehicles, endless possibilities.
Sending hope and crossed toes that the migraines get sorted. Those who have never had one have no idea of what they are talking about when they offer advice!

    1. Thanks. I don't have pain with my migraines, just auras...a flashing light that blinds my eyes for a time. I'm very sensitive to bright sunshine these days. I do feel for those who have painful migraines.

  4. I get those migraines, usually from too much screen time! I hope you find a similar simple remedy.

    1. I also get them when I first wake up, so no screen triggers. Stress can also bring them out. I do hope for some solutions.

  5. The before and after of the (Not McClure) house and Georgia are proof that some people will take on anything! Gorgeous. I have friends who owned a house in St. Augustine that looked a lot like the first house pictured although it was larger, I think. They spent years redoing that house. It was lovely but a relief for them when they finally sold it, I think.
May you get answers about your migraines.

    1. I wish some of the old homes I've seen were renovated. It takes a special kind of knowledge as well as investment of time, materials and dollars to bring an old home back to life. Kudos to those who do that work!

  6. Interesting Salinger quote. His widow stopped by this week to bring us a rum cake to thank Dan for putting on the lights every evening on the tree on the green. She is quite active in our community and was the one that gifted the old store for our new library/community center.

    1. What an interesting coincidence...my quote about J.D. Salinger, and then his widow being active in your community, as well as giving you all a rum cake! I had no idea!
