First let's meet my Saturday's Critter:
Meet Winston. He was friendly and well behaved, but moved so fast I was surprised he was in focus!
Four Sisters Bakery has added these cheerful umbrellas.
1899 Historical photo of the tree known as the “Grizzly Giant”in the Mariposa Grove in Yosemite National Park 3000 years old - probably the date at that time!

It's time for Sepia Saturday! Miscellaneous old photos today.
1976 biosphere fire Montreal -learning the hard way that acetate doesn't make for good construction material.
Swannanoa NC when the Beacon Blanket Factory was the biggest employer, and all these buildings are now gone. The huge blanket factory building had been brought from New England brick by brick, and was for many years the main employer in the area...but it burned after it had closed, just a few years before I moved here.
To do the opposite of something is also a form of imitation.
-Georg Christoph Lichtenberg, scientist and philosopher (1742-1799)
Is that a Cav king Charles Spaniel? He looks like the dog across the street from me, perpetual motion.
ReplyDeleteI think you're right...I couldn't think of the breed's name. Sounds right.
Delete...I LOVE your asinine list!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the internet...you know I didn't make it up!
DeleteThis Canadian had not heard of the Biosphere fire, but he did visit the place 20 years after that. Also 9 years before when it was the American pavilion at Expo 67, when Canada and America got on well.
ReplyDeleteI went to Expo 67 also, as well as several other fairs with Bucky Fuller's domes. So I was surprised to see that fire also. I have always liked the domes.
DeleteThe old photos are great, and Winston has such a friendly face.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and commenting Shiju! Glad you enjoyed my post.
DeleteWinston is adorable ~ sweet photo ~ Great vintage photos too ~ thanks,

You're quite welcome. Isn't he a cute little ball of energy, Winston?
DeleteWinston wins all the eyebrow competitions!
ReplyDeleteExcellent list. To be prickly is porcupine, I suppose.
That's a good addition to the list! I love black and tan dogs with those eyebrows!
DeleteMy granddog is a mix of Winston's breed and a poodle and is really small as a result.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if that tree in Yosemite is still standing?
Great to know of your granddog...and now I want a photo! Good question about the redwood tree.
DeleteHello :)
ReplyDeleteYour King Charles Spaniel is adorable, and I enjoyed those old sepia photos.
Have a lovely weekend
All the best
Sonjia.
I was happy to meet Winston last week...I may have run into him before, but am not sure. Have a great rest of the weekend yourself!
DeleteHello Barb,
ReplyDeleteLove the cute doggie Winston. Great photos and I enjoyed the Sepia images. The asinine list is funny. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a great weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
So glad to share my little friend with your meme of many other blogs.
DeleteOh, that huge tree! Like being in the presence of God.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to those redwoods, just the big poplars in Joyce Kilmer Forest. They were nowhere near as big however...nor as old.
DeleteWinston has the perfect name for his demeanor.
ReplyDeleteOh maybe...but moving fast isn't an attribute that I usually give to Churchill.
DeleteI remember watching Butch Cassidy when it first came out. (Only seems like yesterday!) I was heartbroken to hear of Robert Redford's recent death.
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed seeing most of Redford's movies, as well as a recent TV series "Dark Wind" which he helped produce.
DeleteLove Winston's expression: "Hello. Perchance are you someone important?". Loved the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. And Robert Redford and Paul Newman - what a duo. Ohhhh yeah! . And yes, Robert's passing is a sad milestone. I loved him in The Way We Were. As for the giant trees in Yosemite's three groves of big trees - Tuolumne, Merced, and Mariposa - seeing them in pictures is one thing. Being among them is something else again. They're amazing and when you think of all that's happened in the world since their little seedling selves took root, it's kind of mind boggling.
ReplyDeleteOh that's great that you've had the chance to visit those giant trees. I can only imagine what that would be like. Yes, the amount of time they've endured, and how the rest of the world has changed, it is food for thought!
DeleteWhat a cutie.

He sure is. Glad I was able to capture some shots of him!
DeleteWonderful post! I enjoyed it very much. Thank you! And yes doing the opposite is also conformity
ReplyDeleteI remember the saying about two sides of the same coin, where they still represent the same energies, while one is the reverse of the other.
DeleteWinston is just adorable! My parents had a Winston long ago. Our Winston was a cocker spaniel.
ReplyDeleteHello Winston, you are adorable.
ReplyDeleteWinston looks like a dog who has strong opinions. Such a King Charles Spaniel would seem perfect for Britain's new King Charles III. But maybe he is stuck with his mother's Corgis!
ReplyDeleteA post full of interest. Winston brought back memories of our dogs - I would just love to curl up with him! My favourites are the vintage images.
ReplyDeleteWinston looks like a fun dog.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed all the miscellaneous photos. You’ve inspired me to watch “Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid “ again.
