Feeling good

First...my word for the week is contentment (thanks Jenny)

Second, I woke up feeling great yesterday! (when I wrote this). It was confusing to not be too out of breath, coughing was reasonable, and all my muscles seemed to obey my wishes without aches or pains.

So I went for a  drive, couldn't quite manage a walk, but I did skip using the cane getting to the car. First to pick up a prescription and use my 30% off at CVS. I felt good enough I got my COVID vaccination.  Then to a favorite restaurant, where I usually have gone with friends on Saturday's after working the Tailgate Market selling our pottery. Those days are long gone.

But I had been telling friends how much I wanted the turkey & dressing meal...which is so much I never could eat it all in one sitting. Nobody else said they wanted to go, so I went alone! I seldom do that, usually just taking things "to-go". But I really liked the presentation of their meal, and it didn't seem it would meet my "comfort food need" in a box! I kept thinking, it may be my last chance to eat this, so I'll pay whatever it costs. I'm worth it!

To start the meal...

This much went home with me in a box!

And I decided I needed to treat myself to the delightful desert, Bistro Bites, which is a warm brownie with ice cream and whipped cream...and some decaf coffee on the side.

It was surprisingly not crowded, since it was warm enough for many people to sit outside under the red umbrellas with a bit of sunshine.

An older photo of the umbrellas and patio seating at The Bistro.

I proceeded to drive away leaving my boxed dinner sitting there, drove around the block and came back for it, and fortunately they'd saved it for me!

This (above) may be true, but sure goes in the face of other "flow philosopies!"

  2. Contentment is a good word! I am glad you were feeling better. I will look forward to a turkey dinner for Thanksgiving.

    1. I've found I can fix the brownie a la mode at home much cheaper...and just as delicious! But of course I don't very often. The pleasure is increased by having it rarely.

  3. Good to read that you were feeling better, Barbara, and able to get out and to treat yourself to that turkey dinner, and even better that the leftovers were saved for you😋 It’s turkey day here and dinner will be turkey breast and the fixings at home.

    1. Oh yummy, home made turkey dinner sounds lovely. I'm so glad that I pushed myself to enjoy the meal out by myself...though looking at a wall was a bit of a downer. I kept looking to the side to see the sun coming in to the next room.

    1. It's surprising how correct the fish are...always moving into the current.

  5. I laughed aloud at the guardian angel comment! Mine too, I'm sure. I'm terrible for leaving things behind. I need the reminder they play constantly on our trains: "Please take all your belongings with you!"

    1. Oh that's good there's a reminder on your trains for picking up everything. I must leave something or another behind at least once a week. A few minutes ago I texted my friend to not leave, even though we'd already said goodbye...because I forgot to give her some things I had for her. Thankfully she was still parked in the parking lot when I came out of the ladies room.

  6. Except for forgetting the box, it seems like you had a great day. I hope that today is good too.

    1. So far so good! I'm still short of breath just walking anywhere...and have shaky fingers (another separate condition). It's a beautiful day which helps a lot (fog disappeared about 8:30)

  7. That is the exact meal I sometimes crave! Good for you for getting what you wanted!
My guardian angel is sick and tired of me.

    1. I told the owner of the restaurant I appreciated the comfort food. Of course that's what it is.

  9. What a pretty picture of the fall blooming flowers by the lake. Glad you are feeling better. The meal looks good but I don't eat turkey, quit eating it years ago because it seemed to aggravate my afib.

    1. I admit to having a nap a few hours later...but not the kind I used to get after a really heavy turkey meal. It just felt like time to rest. Some days are like that. Sorry you have side effects from turkey.

  10. I'm glad you felt well enough to go out and enjoy the meal. And seized the day!

  11. GIRL - I am so proud of you for taking yourself out to dinner. And it looks DELICIOUS. I have left boxes behind before and I am so glad you went back and they saved it for you. I think we all have a little "fear of missing out" as the kids say FOMO. Since Covid I do things because it might be the last time I do them. Not being morbid, but realizing I'm not immortal. What a nice restaurant and what a beautiful day!

  12. Oh, now I know what FOMO means! I wonder if there's a dictionary of these terms... I think our whole culture has changed since Covid, and nobody has a clue how much. It sure was a good day!

  13. I wonder if the guardian angels can make trades. :)
