Update about blogCa

Who knew all this would happen afterwards! Flat Creek in Feb. 2024. Much changed by the force of the hurricane floods in Sept. 2024.

Asheville trip (with my own photos!)

Blue Ridge Rd bridge over the Swannanoa River is built, but not yet open as of Mon. 11.4.24. Then I went to Asheville... (Later I took more photos of Swannanoa, when I was actually looking for a free lunch, but never spotted one.)

Mon, Wed, and Fri I am going to be doing what these people are doing...for my pulmonary rehab maintenance exercise. I started this week.

A gingko tree on a cloudy day in Asheville, last Mon.

Driving through the worst hit area, Biltmore Village. Much has already been cleaned up, but the repairs continue.

McDonalds has huge piles of debris at the entrance to it's parking lot (over to the left which I didn't catch as I drove by.)

Was this the Wendy's where I went often for lunch following doctor's appointments in Asheville?

Hwy  81 runs parallel to the Swannanoa River, which flooded at 26.5 feet. (I think that's still below the roof line of these buildings,  so they must count starting at the bottom of the river.)

Today's quote:

[Film and theater critic John] Simon has simply discovered the trick used with great effectiveness by certain comedians, talk show hosts and punk rock musicians: people of modest talent can attract attention, at least for a while, by being unrelentingly offensive.

-Steven Pinker, author and psychology professor (b. 18 Sep 1954)

    1. Thanks. Wish I could have commented on your post this a.m. but there wasn't a choice link.

  3. That looks like the damage is under control.
My training today was kitchen, bathroom and loo cleaning...

    1. Excellent, when are you coming over to do my place? (Baring the intercontinental travel needed to do so!)

  4. Dear Barbara, the quote of the day can of course also be supplemented with politicians. I followed the US elections and am now in shock 😰🤬😱 I also see some other damage here - did I understand correctly, there was flooding? (We had some here about 2 months ago... But according to some politicians, there is no climate change...)
Anyway, it's good that you are doing pulmonary rehab with exercises on the ergometer. I go to the gym 3 times a week, and there I "cycle" for half an hour to warm up, among other things. That gets the whole circulation going. Stay healthy and don't let anything get you down!
All the best from Austria, Traude

    1. Thanks Traude! Yes, severe flooding from tropical storm (Hurricane) Helene Sept. 27. I am going to try going this afternoon, as I heard the gym is less crowded then.

  5. Good luck with your recovery plans. It isn't easy, is it?
    So sad seeing this disaster.

    1. I am grateful that I simply cough a lot when the going gets too much, and don't have any pain. I then like to come home and take a nap.

  8. We are in the midst of a climate crisis. I thought of that in order to get me out of the doldrums this morning, realizing that there is still so much work to do. We also have an educational crisis in the American south. I didn’t realize how ignorant people were until I started reading comments on Facebook, a place that does not require a great deal of literacy.
