Who knew all this would happen afterwards! View out my son's kitchen window over the canyon, and over there somewhere is a Dispensary selling marijuana products (it's Colorado after all!)

Ice on the lake last week

The patterns in the ice were always intriguing.

And from this view, the water on top of the ice almost looks like there isn't the frozen layer.

Some warmer weather has probably meant the the ice has now completely melted. But winter isn't over yet! Yesterday (written on Feb. 3) Phil the groundhog saw his shadow, which predicts 6 more weeks. Ugh. I'd like it cut in half, maybe 3 more before I go a bit more berserk than usual.

Today I plan to walk at the lake, and pick up a lunch provided by the Council on Aging (how long will they be in business I wonder) upstairs in the Lakeview Center. The downstairs is not renovated since the flood of the lake 6 feet up the walls after Helene. So there aren't the social opportunities of sitting at lunch, nor any of the various games and classes that we used to enjoy at the Senior Center. Many (I hope) seniors plan to attend the next Town Meeting next Monday and ask for more help in getting the center renovated.

  2. Of course, there is much ice here, but not in today's posts which are of open water. It depends how fast the current is flowing in and given spot. Once the river is flowing through town, it is going pretty fast. Before it enters town, is is wider, even called a lake, and the ice is thick enough for ice fishing huts.

    1. Oh my, I'd love to see the ice fishing huts. But maybe that's too far for you to go. Interesting that the river is actually a lake, is it the same name? Mississippi?

    2. Yes, same name. It’s just where the river gets winder. I took a picture of the hits in the past but can’t get down the embankment for a good photo now.

  3. Hello,
Love your header photo, beautiful sky. Our lake is frozen , we have not had many warm days.
Enjoy your walk at the lake. We are having freezing rain this morning, no walk for us. Take care, have a happy day!

    1. I miss seeing eastern and western skies once I'm home, as most of my views are to the south. Oh I really hate freezing rain, which may be here someday soon. Stay safe!

  4. ...if you can, send some sun our way!

    1. When it appears! This morning I couldn't see the tops of the mountains across the valley for the fog, but the tops appeared as pink forms floating in the sky...where some sun had hit them for a brief time. Back into fog/clouds all over for now.

  5. Today we have wintry mix, which is not trail mix falling from the sky! I hope you get the senior center renovated soon. You need it. But I expect there are so many other needs since the storm.

    1. Yes, survival needs always have to get first attention. Which leaves groups of volunteers to pull plastic trash out of our trees and bushes, where it caught during flood and winds. It sure makes me more committed to lessening single-use plastics.

  6. Your new header is absolutely beautiful. We had a blue sky and sun all day here which seems like a miracle. :)

  7. I do hope your senior center can be renovated, Barbara! I know how valuable thye are and I;m glad they are still providing lunches. We've had a cold and snowy wonter so far this year and my husband had a big surgery so we;ve mostly been hibernating inside,

    1. Good idea with winter weather and recuperation to be inside people. I'm grateful to have a car and still drive, the 1/2 mile over to Lake Tomahawk. The lunch I picked up (Salsbury steak, gravy, rice, mixed veggies and apple butter) was still hot and delicious when I got home...and I didn't even eat the biscuit and orange - they will be great for breakfast!

  8. With the strange times we are in, who knows when and if funding will ever be what it was for all these things important to all the different small groups impacted. Like your senior center.
The ice photos are beautiful, as is your header photo. Our lives in the fast lane, right?

  9. I hope they renovate your senior center before long. We don’t have one in my county although the rec center does have some programs for seniors.

  10. I loved living by a lake! It's the people around it that drove me nuts.
