Happy Samhain

Who says witches have to be ugly?

Dancing after church to The Monster Mash

Early one morning last week, my new home gave this eerie view! (not edited photo)

Regeneration...

Marija Gimbutas, archaeologist who did key work on the ancient Goddess religions, used to say, “She’s not about fertility, she’s about regeneration.”

Regeneration—the ability of life to emerge from death. Out of rot comes compost, out of decay, nourishment for something new.

Samhain is the ending in the turning of the year. In ancient times when people lived with an agricultural calendar it was the New Year, when the crops had been stored, and the cold times began, waiting for spring when new life could begin anew. It was the time of remembering ancestors.

Thanks, Tom, for sharing this fun song...which actually doesn't have anything to do with Halloween, does it?

  2. I wish you a merry Samhain. Barbara, "The Purple People Eater" is a Halloween song if you want it to be!

  3. Halloween has become something much larger than it used to be. At least that is my take, which may be wrong.
