Elevated me! and travel pics #1

Remember (if you've read my blog in the last month or so) my attempt to go to higher elevations to start acclimating myself to my move to Colorado?

Well, I've moved. And for the last 3 days I've been breathing air over a mile in elevation...and  using lots of oxygen to help. It's not quite doing the job. I am tired, and very sluggish, and get out of breath doing the least little thing.

Cortez, where I'm currently sitting at my son's home, is elevation of 6,181 feet. The fact that it's 93 degrees out keeps me in the house.

Tomorrow morning we drive the rest of my stuff to Durango, which is at 6512 feet. I feel really bad that I can't help load and unload just the needs for each night. But this old body I'm living in is demanding breathing equipment.

Eventually we'll get the U-Haul unloaded (today when you read this) and take the truck back. And my son and his friend will drive back to Cortez and leave me in my new apartment with the hoard of boxes! And don't forget tupperware tubs!

But at the last minutes there was room for the little twin bed, which needs replacing, but provides me a place to put my pillow. And the old rocker wasn't quite ready for the trash heap. After all, there's a personal connection between us survivors from the 70s!

So you came for the travel pics, didn't you?

Saturday we left Santa Rosa, after a delightful breakfast. Then across New Mexico through Albuquerque.

My first sighting of a train!

I loved seeing rocks that looked just like lava.

  1. I get tired even at the idea of moving ;) 18 years last week since my last move and that was less than 1 mile in distance - but a lot of boxes! Will you be getting any help with unpacking??

  2. Hello,
I hope you take care adjusting to the elevation. I would go slowly unpacking your boxes.
The scenic views are lovely, beautiful photos. Take care, enjoy your day and the new week ahead.

  4. Hahahahaha, that hill DOES look just like Jabba the Hutt! I hope your body adjusts to the higher elevation as soon as it can.

  5. Rest! Travel is exhausting, even when you are the passenger. Toes crossed you get the oxygen sorted ASAP. I do love Jabba the Hutt and all your observations.

  6. Hope you will be feeling better soon, Barbara, as the elevation change sounds like quite an adjustment. The wide open scenes were impressive and so different from driving along highways here in the east.

  7. If you google "how the body adapts to high altitudes" you'll see that it is indeed a process but a pretty cool one. Be patient! This is real and you need to give it all time to kick in.
That's my no doubt unnecessary advice for today.
You still have the rocking chair!

  8. Those boxes aren't going anywhere, so just take your time and enjoy your new surroundings for now! You've worked hard to get where you are and you deserve some rest. I'm so glad you made it to your new home and I love all the pictures!

  9. You made it! I am so excited for you! Time will help with the breathing. Meanwhile look at what you accomplished. I stand amazed!

  10. I can't imagine how tired you must be. One small step at a time. Don't be in a worry and don't worry about how long it will take. The focus now is on YOU. And we need you to feel better. All you need to do is breath. And eat and sleep, lol. All those boxes aren't going anywhere. They will be there when your breathing is better. Rest and breath, that's your new mantra!

  11. I agree with others--but and rock and take your time with the boxes.

  12. You captured some beautiful skies! I certainly hope you adjust quickly. It sounds challenging. Moving is hard enough as it is.

  13. It will take a while to get used to the elevation. Fortunately you have time!
