Sometime today a cold front will arrive and there will be frost by Friday morning!
But the other day on the way home from lunch at the Senior Center, I slowed enough to capture a few of the early blossoms.
The chair volleyball game was still going when I got there. Menu today was chicken parmesan with spaghetti and roasted Brussels Sprouts and a dinner roll, with milk and a cookie. That day I remembered to bring my own silverware so I didn't use the plastic-ware which is provided. An attempt to help the planet one fork and spoon at a time!
And the Bradford Pear greeted me as I swung into my own driveway.
Though the sun is playing hide and seek with possible showers (none have appeared yet) I saw these lovely little blueish purple goodies...not violets I think, but...?
Oscar Wilde was right, “It is what you read when you don’t have to that determines what you will be when you can’t help it.”

Oh, I hope the frost won't kill the flowers already up! ... Here, I still haven't seen any flowers. The snow and ice is gone now, but we had a long cold winter. So they (the flowers) are probably right to hesitate... ;)
ReplyDeleteThese early bloomers will probably all die back in the morning. So glad we got a bit of joy from them while they lasted. Your weather is more like ours used to be...climate change sure is disrupting our patterns here.
DeleteThat's very true about adult friendships.
ReplyDeleteI miss the relationships from busy people.
Delete"one fork and spoon" ✔️
ReplyDeleteI hope your pretty spring bulbs don't perish prematurely.
I am not hopeful at 31 F degrees forecast for morning. Wind may have died down at least.
DeleteHere the temperature is dropping too. It was lovely while it lasted though. W don't have blossoms yet, so they're safe.
ReplyDeleteThat's more the way springtime should happen, to my mind.
DeleteNot Violets, but I think Violas.
ReplyDeleteAll beautiful flowers. Sometimes not as tender as we fear!
We have a cold front going over here with gales ( ferries in port until Saturday) and rain....and getting colder again from this afternoon
Tis the last of winter...for perhaps another month.
Delete...Marysia Miernowska is right!
ReplyDeleteYes, we all are nature...just doing our part in the scheme of things!
DeleteI agree with gz - Violas, our weather has certainly taken a turn down, winds and rain and the temperature has dropped.
ReplyDeleteOur daffodils and hyacinths cope with relatively rubbish weather - so yours should be ok - as long as not flattened by the wind or snow!
No snow for a while, though a second cold front is due next week. This cold snap will probably be over tomorrow.
DeleteDefinitely violets I would say. Pretty little things.
ReplyDeleteSmart to bring your own silverware. Not only are you doing your bit for the planet but plastic just doesn't seem really up to the task of eating chicken parmesan.
If Oscar was right, I am soon to be a Number One Ladies Detective!
No heart shaped leaves like violets have...so I am voting with the violas. You read a lot of Number One Ladies Detective Agencies, I gather. I've got another S. J. Bennett to listen to, but it's not as good as the others I've read. Oh well.
DeleteIt's the newest one from McCall Smith's very long series about these ladies. I find peace in the wisdom of Mma Precious Ramotswe. And her kindness.
DeleteI have a Bradford Pear tree in my backyard and it is just beginning to bud! Your Senior Cuitizen Center looks very nice. Using metal silverware is always better than plastic. Have a good weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks Pat...these may be invasive non-native trees, but they are among the first to blossom.
DeleteHello Barb,
ReplyDeleteYour Spring is earlier than we have here. I love all the flowers and blossoms. Your lunch sounds good, it is nice you take your own silverware. Less plastics being used, is a good thing. Take care, enjoy your day!
Hi Eileen...yes, I even remember to bring a tupperware container to bring home left overs. One piece of the chicken was added to dinner yesterday.
DeleteOh how I love all the harbingers of spring, from the tiny flowers to the trees bursting.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your post... here from Thankful Thursday
Sue
Spring has become one of my favorite seasons...it's so full of surprising beauty everywhere! Living in FL for many years, I forgot how wonderful spring can be.
DeleteI love all the spring flowers!!! Thank you. Ours are weeks away but they are nice to see. I like your silverware idea. And Chicken Parm sounds delicious.
ReplyDeleteI try to remember the silverware, a cloth napkin, and some empty tupperware...the chicken was pretty good.
DeleteWe had snow this morning, followed by sun. We'll see how all the beautiful blooms do.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I hope it's not too cold that the blooms die back completely!
DeleteI admire your commitment to the planet by taking your own silverware! The meal sounds wonderful and the trees are lovely. We have blossoms coming out here in Kentucky, but a hard freeze is waiting to appear in a few days. Thank you for linking up!
ReplyDeleteYep, the false springtime here was lovely while it lasted...though it surprised all kinds of plants and insects and birds.
DeleteIt is heartwarming to see the blooms!
ReplyDeleteHappy to share beauty when it appears.
