Breathing that in every day!

I seldom post twice in a day.

But yesterday I was dusting (a rarity in my humble abode). When suddenly my little swifter rag caught something inside the louvers of the Min-Split, air conditioner/heater in the wall.

It was a rusty piece of metal screening. I looked inside and saw a big hole in the metal screen.

Today when I was doing some business in the manager's office, I asked to have the maintenance man look at it.

I turned it off, and shown the iPhone's trusty flashlight inside.

OMG!! And little fishes! And the boat that Michael rowed ashore!!

It may not be easy to see, because I couldn't get the camera to work with the flashlight, nor could I figure out how to turn on the flash on the camera...but there are lots of tiny pieces of rust that have blown off the crumbling screen.

When we started to clean up those crumbles, the rest of the screen disintegrated.

So Barry went to get his shop vac, and cleaned out the AC. Then he went to see if he had a piece of metal screen, and he did.

We noticed a lot of white hard splotches on different parts inside and outside the screen on the AC...Barry said calcification. I was mainly concerned with how wet it had been that all that metal just rusted away.

His answer was that we live in a rain forest. I wasn't at all satisfied with that explanation.

I'm going to ask Chuck what he thinks, since he's an HVAC expert (husband of my friend.)

But here's Barry putting new screen in. So it's patched up for a while. I've lived here since this unit was installed 8 years ago.

I'll certainly be checking it each year! If I stay here! Boy first it's mold everywhere (each window track, the whole bathroom, kitchen drains, etc!!) and now the air-conditioner blows metal specks right at me. I sit to watch TV about 6 feet in front of it. No wonder I start coughing each evening!

I bet I'd glow on an X-ray these days!

Geese...I'm going to go try to take a nap. It's due to rain this afternoon...and probably get inside the air conditioners. And probably try to feed all the little black and pink molds. So I'm going to put on the C-Pap mask where some of the air is filtered through a kind of big porous filter.

Did I mention I've been up since 4:30 this morning?  OK, good night.

  1. You do live in a humid environment but 'rainforest' is s rather strong descriptor.
