Beautification Committee plant sale

The Monte Vista Hotel hosted the Annual Plant Sale of the Beautification Committee of Black Mountain. It is on W. State Street.

The following photo is a description of my gardenia (the new one, which has small flowers abundantly)

Appalachian Creek Nursery is usually at the Tailgate Market on Sat...I wonder if they were in both places this weekend!

I have a few more photos, which I'll post tomorrow!

Today's Quote:

Knowing is a veneer our minds create and lay over the landscape like a painter’s drop cloth set upon a forest floor. Its uniformity protects us from the pine needles and beetles, but it also obscures them, as well as the soft moss, fragrant soil, and teeming complexity of nature’s bed.

  1. That Fall is a good time for planting signs is probably not true here. It gets cold so quickly that I never get around to it, not even planting spring bulbs.

    1. I seldom plant in the fall, because all my plants will be coming inside in their pots during the winter. I actually cull out a few at that time.

    1. I do like this new gardenia...but with equinox next week, there's almost no sun on my north facing front porch any more. Time to put these into winter positions in the bedroom and living room windows. Living room is still waiting for the maples to shake off all their leaves though.

  3. I have taken that maxim to heart and been transplanting and planting. Bulbs on their way, too that will have to go into the ground.

    1. I bet you'd recognize all the native ones...I didn't even look seriously at them...since everything I have will have to be in my living or bedroom during the winter.

    1. I have a mask with tropical foliage, and bugs depicted on it. I get a kick out of wearing it, wonder if anyone notices the bugs.

    1. That group has done fabulous things in our town, which apparently has relied upon them for all the beauty we have.
